| Nitpick: "...each with a viscous smile." Don't you mean vicious? Author Reply: Actually, I chose the word I meant. I wanted to indicate their smiles were cloyingly syrupy in nature as well as somewhat oily. I suppose I could have used "vapid," but that indicates mindlessness, while I see these young ladies as being particularly predatory and calculating in nature. To capture Bilbo's ward and apparent heir to Bag End and the Hill would have been quite the coup for any one of them. Thanks! | |
