I love the images this conjures. Earendil needs direction and purpose, and Eonwe needs to face danger, apparently.

Author Reply: Oh, I'm really glad if you can tell so much after the prologue! I can tell that Eonwe will get more danger than he would like in this story...

I guess once you've killed a dragon, mere harpies are nothing.

Eönwë as a hawk: of course! He serves Manwë, so it's only logical.

Can an Ainu die? -- Apparently they all got through the War of Wrath in one piece. So none of them have died yet ... which means none died in the earlier wars with Morgoth and his followers ... maybe because none were truly incarnate during those wars? Interesting.

And I imagine that Olórin was the first Ainu who has experienced death - and that was exactly because he was bound to a real, physical body during his mission in Middle-earth. Saruman was the next one...
