In Darkness Bound  by Fiondil 10 Review(s)

I could say something reasonable and pertinent about the excellent writing in this chapter, particularly the first half, vividly portraying grief in its many facettes. Vacillating between absolute numbness and incomprehension, and sudden hyperaware flashes where everything grinds itself all the more into the soul. Where the famous "stages of grief" seem to crash on one all at once, all jumbled together.

Or I could just say, I'm having a bit of trouble writing this review, because my sight is blurry. It was this: "I c-c-can’t feel him," that did it for me.

Author Reply: I wanted so much for Ingil to live; it was very hard to write these last few chapters, especially this one. I think you did rather well in expressing your feelings about this. Thanks for taking the time to do so. I appreciate it very much.

Ouch! This is a hard chapter to read. Somehow this grabbed me more than the previous chapter. I knew Ingalaure would die, but to see the grief and what his death does to Ingwion and his parents is even harder to read.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. And as hard as it was to read it was harder for me to write. And I think this chapter grabbed a lot of people, because, like you, they knew Ingalaurë would die at some point and were somewhat prepared for it but not necessarily for the aftermath. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

It is a terrible shock, to find that Ingil-shaped hole in the midst of himself. And he's not truly seen death before.

Author Reply: A terrible shock, indeed, Larner, and no, none of them, certainly not the younger Elves, including Ingwion, has ever truly seen death before. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated it.

I am in the middle of the food court of the nearby mall, surrounded by a thousand people, and I am trying not to bawl as Ingwe rocks his son.

Author Reply: This chapter is a real tear-jerker, that's for sure, Tkid. I hope by the time you read this you're not still bawling. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

People reacts different to grief. But, even if I know that is wrong, I'm so glad, so glad that Ingwion had beaten Ingoldo sensesless, now we know why he is afraid of him. It is a sad chapter, I cried.
Bad times, almost everybody's dark side is coming out. And I know, I know that Arafinwë is right, but sometime is so annoying to have someone around that is always right, I don't think that his approach will do anything to help Ingwion.

Author Reply: You're right about that, Fantasia. Everyone is handling the grief differently and some are reacting badly to it. Arafinwe, I think, is speaking out of his own grief and anger. We will see how things work out over the next several chapters. This story is far from over. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I much appreciate it.

A very powerfull chapter, Ingwion Furioso indeed!

Oh, poor baby, you feel so very sorry for him and also for his parents and sister. Namo has done his best for both of them, now they both have to heal but in differant ways, Ingalure has the easier task in some ways but for Ingwion the way will be long and very hard to find forgivness in his heart for his uncle. Right at the moment he is so deep in shock I am surprised he is functioning, to not only loose a brother but the other half of his soul, is very hard to comprehend. It will be many, many centuries till he is healed, not until a certain Balrog Slayer of our aquantance is reborn and sets things in motion.

Once again beautifully written, now to find the tissues and have a good sniffle!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Of course, in case people don't know Italian, _furioso_ doesn't mean "furious" but "mad, insane" and we will see this with Ingwion as the story continues (he mentions to Finrod in "Elf, Interrupted" that he was mentally unbalanced for a time which is why he was forbidden from joining Arafinwe in the War of Wrath). It will indeed by many centuries before he is fully healed and Glorfindel, Finrod and Sador will show him the way.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Atto,

These two chapters were just as hard for me to read as they must have been for you to write. I have come to love Ingalaure and while I knew this would come, had t come, I find I still wasn't quite prepared for the wound it would re-open in my own fëa.

My grandmother passed in 2006, ten days before Christmas. It was not a quick death, but we had all been assured she would survive. We were wrong. The tumors in her lungs and brain defeated her as surely as Ingoldo's plots lost Ingil for the rest of his family. She was not just my anammë, she was a second ammë to me, so I know the pain of Ingwi's loss, even though it's not quite the same. *holds Ingwi* I'm not surprised at his anger with Námo. The four of us older grandchildren were angry with God. I wonder what Ingwi will have to say to Eru about this...but then, I've seen that conversation in EI, haven't I?

Nevertheless, despite the pain I experienced reading these chapters, I know they had to be done and I'm waiting to see what will happen next with the Vanyarin royal family. (You've actually made me have a use for Mondays, Atto.) I hope Ingoldo gets what he deserves.

*hugs Atto*

Tye-melin tenn' Ambar-metta.

Kaylee

*eagerly awaiting Monday*

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. These past 2 chapters were not easy for me to write and I dreaded having to do so even though I knew they had to be writen. It's hard when you lose anyone and I'm sure these last 2 chapters weren't easy for many people who have experienced a loss, especially from violence. As a friend pointed out, it's okay to be angry at God, He's used to his children being angry at Him but he loves us anyway.

We'll being seeing in the next several chapters how everyone handles what has happened and eventually we'll see what happens to Ingoldo. He doesn't get off completely free, I assure you.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, yendenya. Tye-melin.

poor, poor ellon, but I can so sympazise with him. Attacking a Valar is not very smart but understandable. Hope he can find a way to go on. Swallow, swallow...thank you Lai

Author Reply: Hi Lai. We'll see as the story continues how Ingwion handles (or doesn't handle) his grief (and that goes for all the other characters). Ingwion is definitely not thinking straight here. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.

Ingwion has jumped into the deep end of misery and continues to go down... He beat up Ingoldo, similar to what Ingalaure did, but probably much more severe. While his brother has gone to Mandos to be cleaned of that darkness, Ingiwion has the harder job, his darkness is much deeper and likely to get even more so. I wonder what happened in his lost time, did he do something even worse?

Ingalaure came through in this tale, starting off filled with insecurity and maturing to fulfill his destiny, but alas that his death, ultimately, was in vain... caused in no small part due to his own righteous anger... sad, so very sad...

Author Reply: Hi ninqwestilmen. Ingwion indeed has the harder job and it will be some time before he recovers, as well we know. I'm not sure what happened in his lost time. I suspect Namo spirited him away for a while so he wouldn't have an audience while he went off the deep end.

Ingalaure did indeed come through and fulfilled his destiny. And as Namo would say, no death is in vain, though we may not see it. And we know he returns to Life eventually, so there's a happy ending there eventually.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

This was clearly the last straw for Ingwion - I am quite certain that he is not really sane right now. And it is really smart of the reat of them that they have locked Ingoldo away somewhere (at least, that is what I assume they have done) or else Ingwion would probably have been a Kinslayer just about now. Not a nice prospect.

Not a smart thing to do for Ingwion to attack one of the Valar, but I suppose that Námo half expected such a reaction - and he did try to offer comfort, but Ingwion did not seem to be able to receive that comfort at this time - probably because he was in too much emotional pain. And no wonder. His other half is now in Námo's care.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Obviously, Ingwion isn't sane at the moment, so his actions are... unwise, to say the least, but I think Námo understands better than anyone. We'll be seeing how things go with Ingwion as we begin to wind up this story, though it will be several more weeks before we come to the end. There is still much to tell.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I quite appreciate it.
