Halbarad was a good, brave, and loyal man. A true brother. Bless him.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: And he must have rejoiced so to know that his sacrifice was not in vain. Bless him indeed.

I hope you won the challenge. This is such a touching tale that it almost brought tears to my eyes.

Author Reply: The LOTR challenges aren't competitions, but they do inspire some interesting works. Am so glad you found it moved you, Tari! Thank you!

What a lovely birthday gift! Where to start? The entire thing has such moving gravitas... there's something about your style of writing that really mirrors the epic quality of Tolkien's own style, but you also infused this gapfiller with the wonderfully emotion-laden glimpses into the feelings of those who looked on during Halbarad's entire journey from Rivendell to the last moments of his life and the final honors bestowed upon him. I loved all of it, but it was particularly thrilling to see how those in the city viewed Aragorn's triumphant arrival, and Húrin offering his own pin to replace the standard that another must now bear brought a lump to my throat and a very suspicious prickle to my eyes. A beautiful, thoughtful look at the last days of Halbarad Dúnadan... thank you!

Author Reply: I am so very glad that it pleases, Cairistiona. And I am so honored to be compared so favorably with the Master himself! To know that the feelings of those boys Tolkien indicated served primarily to run errands for the healers moved you so is so satisfying, and I must admit I have a soft spot in my heart for Hurin. He must have been moved to realize that this was the first to bear the Standard of Elendil!

I so hope your birthday was wonderful!
