What a neat tale -- I really like that thought...

Author Reply: Thank you. I'd love to see northern lights someday myself.

I can so imagine this conversation, and delight in it.

Have seen the Northern Lights but once, and found them truly eerie and beautiful. No wonder the Japanese see them as propitious to have in the sky when a child is conceived! And, as I've said earlier, I just love the thought of Aragorn tenderly carrying Frodo and Scamp down the Hill to his bed.

Author Reply: Thank you for reviewing again, sweet frend. I delight in conversations like this as well. Perhaps someday Aragorn will be on a similar hill, telling his own son about the sky-lights and carrying him gently to bed.

This made my day when I first read it but didn't have time to review before work. Scamp is just the most adorable pup and I could just see her sleeping in strange postures. My cats find the strangest ways to sleep.

What a vivid and beautiful description of the Northern Lights and the reason for them. Poor Melian, looking for her beloved daughter.

Living in London I'm too far south to see them but I'd love to.

Author Reply: I'd love to see them, too, BB. I hope we both get that experience someday. Thank you so much for reading! I'm glad my new pup is inspiring a bit of writing. She sleeps in interesting positions like your kitties. :)

Well, the first image that came into my mind while reading about Scamp's "interesting" sleeping position was of course - Pippin :-)

And I very much liked Estel's explanation about the origins of the Northern Lights.

Who would not go to the ends of the earth -- or beyond -- if there was the slightest chance of finding your heart's desire?

This is not only true for Melian. In the future it will have a very special meaning for both, Aragorn and Frodo!

Author Reply: Pippin was indeed the Muse for this entire ficlet. She's adorable when she sleeps. :)

Thank you, Andrea. I'm very happy you enjoyed this.

That's a beautiful tale about the northern light! I wish I could see them once... And I imagine Aragorn will fulfill his promise to Melian once.

Author Reply: Thank you very much. I imagine he will. And I wish I could see them, too!

A most graceful, lyric, and gentle vignette. It is so like Aragorn to wish to comfort Melian. Both the prayer and the pledge illuminate so well Aragorn's innate kindness.

I liked it so much I had to review it a third time.

Author Reply: I greatly appreciate that, my friend. I'm delighted you enjoyed this so much. *hugs*

I love the association of the Northern Lights with the legend of Luthien; and Aragorn's association with Luthien's closest descendants makes it all the more intense and poignant.

Author Reply: I'm glad you like this celestial mythology. I love thinking about how those in Middle-earth might explain things like this to one another. And who knows... maybe the story *is* true. :)

Even though this story obviously stretches canon by having Frodo and Estel meet long before LOTR, I was totally drawn into this tale and left it with tears in my eyes for Melian and her daughter, Luthien. I live in the northern US and I see the northern lights on occasion, they are stunning and awe-inspiring. I will be thinking of this sweet tale when I next see them. Thank you.

Author Reply: Thank you for being willing to stretch this far! My "Quarantined" series of stories is an AU-'verse all its own, and I love playing there. I very much hope to see the northern lights myself someday.

Awww, what a lovely story with a lovely thought!

Author Reply: Thank you. Aragorn must have heard so many lovely tales during his childhood. I know he'd enjoy sharing them with the hobbits (and his own children, in later years).

This is so good, I loved it when I first read it and I still do.
Dogs aren't the only ones to sleep in weird positions, my mob can be just as contorted as the next cat!
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: I'd love to see a picture of your mob sleeping, Lynda. Thank you so much for your enthusiastic support for these stories (and my furry muse).
