Estel Counts  by Larner 7 Review(s)
Kaylee ArafinwielReviewed Chapter: 5 on 12/16/2010
Eek! Well, clearly harps aren't for Ranger Chieftains! Heh. He's a good singer, we know...so wind instruments are out...how about percussion, boys like to bang on things. But then he wouldn't be moving silently. Oh, I don't know, lol!

I'm sure there's something out there for Aragorn.

Author Reply: It can take some time to become even tuneful on an instrument. Apparently Estel simply isn't a natural at the harp, although he may come to be reasonably able to play a tune. But drums could indeed be his forte as far as instruments go.

Well, it's good to know that Estel wasn't good at *everything*. Some humility and limitations are good for a future king. :)

Author Reply: No, not good at quite everything, or at least not at first! Heh!

He might have been not so good at playing the harp, but if I remember right, the hobbits found his singing voice quite charming when he sang about Luthien. We just have to wait some years ;-)

Author Reply: I've always seen him as a singer rather than a musician or dancer, myself. But the first lessons are often the worst, no matter what the instrument! Heh!

These are just lovely. I've only just found them as I read more on LJ nowdays, but I'm loving these plimpses of Aragorn's childhood. What a great idea for Advent!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you've found them here. I'll be continuing these throughout the month, so do check them as you have time.

My thanks for these glimpses of Aragorn's childhood! That music lesson was wonderful! Happy holidays to you and your family! :)

Author Reply: And you are welcome. It's proving fun to imagine Aragorn as a child and to see the world through his eyes. And thank you, particularly as Channukah winds down and Advent progresses and the winter solstice and the turning of the year approach.

Oh goodness, poor Estel, driving cats from the room and his mother to wince! Aragorn is good at many things but there's no guaranteeing he's a success at *every* thing he puts his hand to.

Author Reply: No, not quite an immediate success at everything! Heh! Thanks so!

Well, there's always the harmonica.........

Author Reply: Perhaps--or the shepherd's pipe. Maybe a panpipe? Heh!
