| Hi Larner.I cant wait for you finish this story.I feel for the Vala when Isildur turned away.I often wondered, if he had known what the future held, if he had gone ahead and destroyed the ring. | As always good will come from evil. The water is now the safest place for the Ring to be until Ring-destroyer, Ring-finder, and Ring-bearer can come to be and take up their appointed roles. | Isildur made a tragic mistake indeed. I never gave thought to how his choice to keep the ring would grieve the Valar. But, how could it not? Author Reply: I so agree, Tari. Yes, that failure to have given up the Ring must have caused much pain to all who observed it. And the Valar themselves have yet to fully appreciate just how much power Sauron packed into that small golden trinket! Thanks so, and thanks for your patience in awaiting a response. I see the distractions of the time kept me from responding properly to a number of comments. | |

| I love how you describe their reactions. Author Reply: How horrible it must have been, watching that one fateful decision. I doubt that the Valar themselves appreciated at the time, however, just how much power had been granted to that Ring, and how swiftly and fully It could take Its victims. Thanks so, Ellynn! | |

| Thanks for this glimpse of the Valar's reaction to Isildur's fall to the Ring. Hmmmm.... I assume that Ulmo and Aule were able to dim the Ring's abilities when It was in the Anduin and beneath the Misty Mountains. Did the Ring or Sauron suspect that something was muting It's power? Or did Sauron just believe that his recovery was slowed by It's loss after Isildur's attack with Narsil? The Valar must have felt terrible that Sauron and the Ring were able to escape their well earned justice! Many thanks for another addition to Middle Earth! :) Author Reply: I do suspect that Ulmo and Aule found it necessary to provide damper fields of sorts about the Ring, once It came into their territories. We know that Sauron himself had an affinity for fire, so I truly suspect that having fallen into the Anduin from Isildur's hand the power of the water rushing ever over It did a good deal to assure It was not found betimes by evil creatures, although once It was free from the river It certainly acted swiftly on Deagol and Smeagol. As for whether Sauron and the Ring Itself realized that outside powers were affecting It--that is a question I may well explore one day! Just what I need--more Nuzgul haunting my house! Heh! | |
