A Long-Expected Wedding  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 30 on 1/5/2012
Certainly not the triumph Isildil had imagined! He didn't deserve to be hit in the gut, I think, although he won't have the stomach for cake now, salt poured on the icing or not! The wedding itself was beautiful!

Author Reply: That's for sure, Larner, on all counts. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's much appreciated.

Isildil's petty revenge didn't get him very far, did it. LOL Can't wait to see what punishment awaits him and when the Valar will make their appearance.
I'll bet a Maia saw him throw the salt.

I hope you have more stories to submit. I'm running out of reading material.

Author Reply: Hi Tari. We'll see the Valar and what happens with Isildil in the next chapter. There will be one more chapter after that and then I will start posting the sequel to "Elf Academy", so you might want to re-read that work to refresh your memory. Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Atto,

Just a thought about the missing Valar...

Has something gone wrong in Beleriand, perhaps??

Hope your New Year went well, and (slightly early, in my time zone) happy birthday to the most amazing Professor Tolkien...will you be heading for a certain story dedicated to the Professor to re-read? I've started to make reading "Transformation" by Larner into a bit of a tradition, I think!

Tye-melin, and may your 2012 be blessed!

Kaylee

*impatient for Wednesday so there can be more Wedding*

Author Reply: Hi, Kaylee. As to why the Valar were not at the wedding, that will be revealed in the next chapter.

And this year, I'm way too busy writing the sequel to "Elf Academy" to be doing much reading, but certainly "Transformation" is a most appropriate tale to read on this day. *grin*

Tye-melin and Happy New Year.

Hi Fiondil, they finaly got married,Yeh! I thought this day will never come.

Their new wedding garbs sound guite lovely.Your description of the event really make you feel as you are there.

However I can't wait when they catch up with Isildil,I can,t make up my mind wether I should feel sorry for him. As I said earlier thank goodness that my wedding was never this bad. Can't wait for the next chapter.LOL Galathil

Author Reply: Hi Galathil. I'm sure many readers never thought this day would come. LOL! Glad you liked the wedding garb. As for Isildil... we'll see in the next chapter whether he should be pitied or not. Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Wow, Isildil, and to think I didn't think you could get any, um, bitchier. That's real mean-spirited (if somewhat impressive, considering all the work he put into the cake in the first place). I suspect he's going to be very, very sorry shortly. On a happier note *\o/* Congrats to Finrod & Amarie, on finally getting there! The new outfits sounded lovely!

Author Reply: Hi bookworm. Isildil is a real piece of work, that's for sure. Glad you liked the new outfits. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

First off -- another great chapter. The wedding sounded delightful. To be able to see the raiment is the only thing missing. The description made me soooo want to see these two lovebirds in all their finery.

Isildil really blew it. Talk about a missed opportunity! He would have been the talk of the kingdom the way you described the cake before salt! Now he barely escapes with his life.

And the missing Valar? After Glorfy's sweet invitations? Shame on them!

I finally figured out what you're going to do with Isildil... you're going to give him his own cooking show!

Thanks for a fun chapter. Kind of you to st least let the ceremony itself go without a hitch.

Author Reply: Hi Agape. Glad you liked the chapter. Isildil really blew it big time but I guess he just no longer cared as long as he go his revenge on Finrod. Some people are just like that. We'll find out why the Valar weren't there physically in the next chapter. And I like your solution to Isildil's fate. LOL! What is that saying? Those who can't teach? *grin*

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

That was all the revenge Isildil could think of? Honestly, today's villains really are of the petty sort! And he was even stupid enough to get caught? Every ten-year-old Elfling (or Reborn) would have done a better job. A shame, really. I only pity the poor Elves who helped create the cake - their hard work was surely ruined.

And the Valar! They finally get invited to a wedding, and then don't show up? *shakes head at capricious higher powers* I don't think they would have outshone the bridal couple in Morwen's creation. I so envy your ability to come up with beautiful garments; visualizing them is a special talent of yours.

Now waiting for the creative punishment...

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. Isildil is rather petty in his attitude towards a lot of things. We will learn what punishment is meted out to him in the next chapter. And we'll learn why the Valar were no-shows as well. Glad you liked Morwen's creations. I know some people don't like all the descriptions of clothing, but I think it helps set the scenes. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I greatly appreciate it.

What a lovely wedding, and for once the important part went over without a hitch...almost. Depends on you point of view (if you think the ceremony or the cake is more important ;-)).
What was Isildil thinking? Elves are immortal and have veeery long memories. Leaving the country is also not an option... After this, his name will be known everywhere. First he got some good punches in, and then he has to face the royalties and very angry guests at the wedding... *shakes head*
And what are the Valar up to?

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. I'm glad you found the wedding lovely and it was nice that that part of it went off without a hitch, isn't it? *grin*

And Isidil... well what can one say about that kind of person?

And we'll find out in the next chapter what the Valar are up to.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Well I am happy that horrible Isildil got what he deserved, he really is a bad piece of work. Now I would like to know what is going to be of him, I mean it's quite evident that he won't ever be a Master Cook again and he blackened HIS name in front of the 3 royal courts and the nobles of the Noldor, Vanyar and Teleri, also in front of the Sindar, etc. I wouldn't be at all angry or surprised if he is expelled from the kitchens of Aman, that horrible elf deserves it, I mean he just blames everyone for his faults and doesn't sees his part in it!!!!

Also i have a question from the last chapters, it's been bothering me, hihihihi, why didn't Glorfindel know Aracano???? I mean if he used to play with Artanis and later on with Turucano, why didn't he know his brothers???? Because he also said that he knew Findecano only by name... And going in the same line why didn't Arafinwe knew of him in the beginning since as I mentioned before he used to play with Artanis????

Is Glorfindel of the first generation of elves born in Aman???? I mean did his parents came from the Awakening along with Finwe, Olwe, Elwe and Ingwe????? Or were they born in the Long Journey to Aman????? If so Glorfindel doesn't have any grandparents???

Author Reply: Hi Monalex. You raise some good questions. Here are my answers, for what they're worth. In the type of society that the Elves have, which is fairly medieval, it is unlikely that Arafinwë would have little or no knowledge of what his children were up to while they were still in the nursery. Who the children played with would not have been a concern of his; that would have been the purview of any nannies and governesses on hand.

Also remember, Glorfindel is a Reborn, and not every memory is available to him, so he not recognizing Aracáno right off would not be considered odd. No doubt, once he knew who Aracáno was his memory would have returned to some degree. Because several centuries can separate siblings it's possible that a young Glorfindel simply wouldn't have any contact with older brothers and such. So, for instance, Glorfindel knew of Finrod but had nothing to do with him per se because he was much younger than Finrod.

Glorfindel is most likely of the same generation as Finrod, so he would be second generation. I have no idea if he has grandparents living in Aman or not. He hasn't said and since none have come forward, I must assume they are not there. One has to remember that Tolkien doesn't give us any background infrmation on Glorfindel so I've been making it up as I go along. It was the longest time before I ever found out what happened to his parents and why they were not there to greet him when he was released from Lórien or why he never mentioned them. Maybe grandparents will show up someday. *grin*

I hope I've been able to answer your questions to some degree. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated.

Author Reply: Sorry. "In the type of society that the Elves have, which is fairly medieval, it is unlikely that Arafinwë would have little or no knowledge of what his children were up to while they were still in the nursery."

That should read: "... it is likely...". Thanks, Lynda, for pointing out the error.
