The tide turns. What a cool chapter, Gil-Estel indeed.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

This explains the part of the original story that has been hard to accept. Thank you for this sweet story, it made me smile.

Author Reply: I did wish this piece to reflect the cost to all that came from both Earendil's and Elwing's decisions. Tolkien indicated that Earendil did not wish to accept the life of the Eldar, but that he did so in response to Elwing's decision. At least this way they do have the hope of being reunited with their sons, should, hopefully, both Elrond and Elros also be granted the life of the Eldar.

And thank you for letting me know you appreciate it!

Aww, wonderful. I love your version of Earendil's and Elwing's voyage towards Valinor. I can feel how much they love each other. I especially like the idea that she felt and saw special signs that had led her actions. The end is really touching. Beautifully written.

Author Reply: I believe there were parallels between the quests of Beren, Earendil, and Frodo and that all three were faced with the knowledge that they might well die while seeking to accomplish their tasks, but accepted this probability, realizing that there were no other workable options at the time. And there had to be a special reason why Elwing did what she did, abandoning her sons to the keeping of those who had been threatening them but a moment earlier. I must believe that she was prompted by Ulmo, the one Vala who loved mankind as the others did the Elves.

Only by being willing to offer their own lives could the quests of all three of these heroes be completed, and a new life given each as was necessary and as they deserved. And Elwing and Earendil must have realized that they could NOT return to their sons, and must trust in the Creator to provide for their beloved sons.

Many intriguing interpretations. And I very much liked your characterization of Elwing and Eärendil.

Author Reply: Oh, I'm so glad you find it intriguing, eiluj. And I feel certain there were many parallels between Earendil, Beren, and Frodo that need to be recognized. Thank you so!
