Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)

It seems to be a nice surprise for the elves, one can hope. I loved the scene with Glorfindel finding peace by watching the lake. But he still needs some more time to come to himself. He is as arrogant as Stoner in his own way.

Author Reply: You see, not everything needs to be sinister. *grin* Glorfindel is arrogant but he comes by it honestly. And I think they ALL need a long vacation, but thy're not likely to get ony any time soon. *grin* Thanks for leaving a review. I always apprecitate the effort.

Ah, Glorfindel! An unexpected wave of homesickness can just level you - poor guy...

Dare I hope that Finrod is at least one of those they will meet?? I see it's a popular vote, but Glorfi sure could use his friendship, humour, wisdom and skilled experience working with Mortals!

Love the deliberate inclusion (and confirmation) of Alex and Derek - sorry Elves... looks like you're stuck with them!

Author Reply: Hi Lyana. Yes, homesickness can strike anyone at anytime. We'll see just who shows up soon enough. And of course Alex and Derek had to be included, since that's the whole point of the story. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to review. It's much appreciated.

I will keep up with reviewing..I will keep up with reviewing..I will keep up with reviewing.....

I first read the title as north by North West and immediately thought of a film title. I don't know whether that was your intention. And I am glad that I am not the only avid reader that would go as far as googling the coordinates. BTW Thank you for reintroducing me to that lovely song and I agree that the gregorian Chant version is wonderful - much closer to how Glorfindel would sing it. I can't seem to find it in a downloadable form online. *pouts*

My twopenny worth on the lakeside gathering is that I would love to see any of the aformentioned candidates - although I have my doubts that Finrod will come; didn't he vow not to? Or is that my imagination? And there was mention that not all the Elves who are left in ME are gathered at Elf Academy. It being All Hallows Eve - 'when the walls between the worlds grow thin' there might be some sort of reconciliation between Alex/Artemus and 'Junior'.

Author Reply: Hi Harrowcat. Whenever you review is fine.

Yeah, I sort of had that movie in mind as well when I first started writing this chapter. A great movie.

Finrod did vow that he would go no further east than Tol Eressėa "unless the Valar willed it otherwise", so if he is asked by the to return to Middle-earth, then he would do so. We will see soon enough just who shows up and how.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Sounds like walking that path did Glorfindel some good. Until Vorondur came to show him the pumpkins, that is. Can't they just have fun for once?

That message ... seems the Valar are sending it? And from what Derek and Alex worked out ... in the middle of a lake? Hm... the only thing I can see that would need that would be a ship. And seeing that there's a wedding coming up certain people might want to witness and they might need a bit of reinforcements to deal with this Agency mess ... why do I have to think of Vingilot? That hint at All Saint's Day only reinforces that. May I dare to hope that Elrond and Celebrian are coming? And some of their friends, maybe? Glorfindel would be so happy to have his own gwadors back ...

That's an interesting discovery Daeron made. Yes, it sounds as if Derek and Alex are meant to be there, too, there I agree with im and Vorondur, even if Glorfindel isn't happy. And it would be great for them to be allowed to come if what I suspect is right.

All caught up now :)

Author Reply: Yes, the Enchanted Pumpkin event was just what Glorfindel needed.

As for the message and what it may mean, we'll learn that shortly enough, never fear.

And Daeron, being the loremaster that he is, is very observant. Glorfindel may not agree with him and Ron but we will see that in the end he has to acknowledge that Alex and Derek being with them when the discovered the message is important.

Anyway, I'm glad you're all caught up now with the story. Thanks as always for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it more than words can say.

I guess it takes a few doses of peace to make a frazzled Glorfindel unfrazzled. *g* Glad he took the time by the lake, though my heart went out to him. Songs can wreck havoc on us - for good or ill.

I found it slightly disconcerting that Glorfindel sneered at the pumpkins. I found it sad. I think this was most telling -- a by-product of his frazzlement.

I am hoping (fingers crossed) that Finrod might be coming... and that was the reason for Glorfindel's melancholy. Sort of precognition... Oh my - that would be soooo awesome... *heart starts to patter* ?Good grief - I don't want to get too excited - but perhaps Sador too and a few other 'brothers???'

I have this feeling that Alex and Derek will reach the lake - whether with the Elves' permission or no.....

GREAT chapter. Needless to say, I don't know how I'll sleep 'til I found out who..........

Author Reply: Hi Agape. Yes, it is telling that Glorfindel first sneers at the pumpkins. At least he unfrazzled enough to realize just how good the carvings were and enjoyed them.

As for who is coming.... only time will tell. You're right about Alex and Derek, though, and we will see what happens in the next chapter when they go to see the Elves.

Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

I see that people are speculating wildly about who are going to get a ticket on "Vingilot Airlines". ;-) I know who are heading _my_ list - Celebrķan, closely followed by Elrond. I'm sure she has been told that her baby boy is getting married - and it would take braver ... people ... than the Valar to keep a mum and dad away from such a momentous event!

Author Reply: And of course we'll all find out who shows up in due time, Sunny. It will be interesting to see whose list comes closest to the truth. *grin*

Aw, Glorfindel, come on. Let the Mortals and the ellith come.
Mmm, you're really keeping us on our toes here. I have my own suspicions on who the Elves will be, but only time will tell. How long is it until Monday again? ;)

PS: So I couldn't help but Google your coordinates, and you did your homework, didn't you?

Whispy

Author Reply: Hi Whispy. I do try to get things right. *grin* A map helps. Glorfindel does have certain issues and we'll see in the next chapter how they affect Alex and Derek and what comes of it. As to who is coming, that will be revealed soon enough. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it.

Oh, the suspense! hopefully we will encounter friends. I say "we" because I'm going too! How I wish for Finrod visiting, Glorfindel really need a brother. Maybe Elrond? Legolas? the possibilities!

Author Reply: Hi Fanasia. Well we'll see very shortly just who is coming and how. Hopefully people will be surprised and pleased. Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Do not discount Alex and Derek, bring them with you 'cause if you don't they will show up anyway!

I wonder if this has anything to do with that foresight flash one of the Elves had, forget which one?

It is strange that Alex and Derek were the only Mortals to recognise that the writing was Tengwar, they are meant to come!

Good to see Glorfindel finally getting his nerves unfrizzed a bit, he needed the break, makes you wonder how they, whoever 'they' are would have got the message across if Glorfindel hadn't gone with them to the Pumkin Walk.

Back to work today, grrr!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Yes, Alex and Derek being the only Mortals who recognized the writing was tengwar is significant and we will see how important they will prove to be.

Glorfindel did need to be a bit more unfrazzled and the pumpkin walk and sitting by the lake certainly helped. I'm sure whoever sent the message would have made sure Glorfindel saw it somehow. Tricksy the Valar are, yes. *grin*

Thanks for leaving a review, Lynda. It's always appreciated as you know.

Well, the message is far less ominous than I'd anticipated, and I love Daeron and Vorondur's reasoning on why Derek and Alex should be included. I wonder who this fisherman might be, and find myself thinking about rocks and fishers of men!

Author Reply: Yes, the message is far less ominous than many had feared. Daeron and Vorondur's reasoning concerning including Derek and Alex in this venture will be addressed more fully in the next chapter. As for the fisherman... he is as Glorifindel said, a reminder of when Richard Martina took him to that same lake to fish, so Glorfindel has a good idea just where they need to go.

Thanks for the review, Larner. As always, I appreciate it very much.
