Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)

In this chapter, again, we see Derek take charge of his gwador, and stand up a bit to the elves again, before things start to be dealt with. I keep saying "Poor Alex!" as I read this fic. What a horrific nightmare!

I love the idea of all those Elven Healers. They're going to have to know how to deal with Mortals when the Dagor Dagorath happens, so best to get practice now.

I really liked how, in all the concern about Alex, the elves were also concerned about Derek, and his needs. The description of the ellith being evicted from the sunroom was good. You gave me a great mental image of the scene.

And so now we find out a little bit more about Derek (I liked his impression too!).

I liked Derek's interaction with Findelaure in the sunroom, and liked even more, Alex's dragging Findelaure into the kitchen for the hangover remedy. I occurred to me after I wrote the last review, that if they'd alternated each of those deadly drinks with a glass of water, the three amigos would probably still feel horrible, but at least a little bit of the impact might have been moderated. I don't drink, but my friends who do swear that if you keep yourself hydrated with water between alcoholic beverages, you can prevent standard hangovers. Now I do have to agree that the aftermath of the Elven Tour Guide is anything but standard! *wry grin*

I thought it telling in a good way that Findelaure caught himself before saying "the Mortal" and referred to Alex by name.

In any case, It's nice to see that Alex, Derek and the boys are getting along a bit better by the end of this chapter.

One more chapter and I'm caught up! Yay! :-D

Author Reply: Hi Rhyselle. Definitely "Poor Alex" here and it's a good thing Derek was there to help him. And the Elves are sensitive enough to realize that Derek needs some comforting and a chance to vent no less than Alex. Derek is also a forgiving soul and hates to see other suffer, so it's not to be wondered at that he treats Findalaurë as he does here.

You're right about the hydration. In the few times I've indulged in any amount of alcohol, I've drunk a couple of glasses of water before going to bed and that seems to help. I'm less hungover in the morning.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Oh, I remember that hangover cure. My dad used to make it after especially long parties. I loved the bonding part that came from everyone feeling the after effect of the night before and concocting/drinking the hangover cure. I'm not so sure how I feel about the NFL game watching expedition. On the other hand, I think they are all still feeling the aftermath of last night and should be more circumspect.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Luckily, I've never had to take the cure, but I've heard of it. I don't think we need to worry abou the NFL game watching expedition. Everyone is going to be very circumspect. And I misspoke in my response to your review of the previous chapter: Farrell will appear in the next chapter after this one. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

Hi, Fiondil,
as usual, you keep getting better. Nice to see the young elves finding out all about modern Earth. Also very entertaining. I can't wait to see what the next trouble they all get into is.

Author Reply: Hi Rick. Haven't heard from you in quite a while. I'm glad you're enjoying this story. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much. As for what kind of trouble they all get into... just wait and see. *grin*

In these last three chapters one can just see the disaster coming...It's very difficult for me to read something where I know it can get only worse and the characters just continue to act stupidly (what were they thinking, taking those three Elves to a bar with other students to witness their behavior!). I wonder what those students in the bar thought about it all. But somehow that bar night cleared thing between the Elves, Alex and Derek, so perhaps it was for the best after all.

"Hates your guts. Thinks you’re the bane of his existence. Wishes he could safely strangle you and stuff your body into a deep, dark crevasse where it will never be found. But he doesn’t despise you." That was priceless!

Derek's "job interview" was also great, in the future it'll prove how well he adapts to different jobs... if he survives the Elf Academy first, which doesn't seem to be easy. Are there all the time normal studies going on for the other students in the Academy, or have the problems and the arrival of new elves mixed everything?

Author Reply: Hi someone. Yeah, they were all heading for disaster and stupidity, as they say, is, next to hydrodgen, the most common element in the universe. *grin*

And Derek is very adaptable, which is an asset in any situation. As for the other students, they are still engaged in their normal studies. Even Alex and Derek are still attending classes, as we will see shortly. The arrival of the Valinórean Elves haven't changed things much for them yet and most are unaware of their existence.

Well, I was right, we need to track Artemus down and put a bigger lock on his cage!Poor Alex, what a thing to imagine, we really need to take care of the Watcher, sooner rather than later!

Alex seems to have come out of his fuge state, Finrods playing has helped and I think being among those who know his history has also helped. I think most people have forgotten just how soon after his little tumble down the hill this is all happening, it can only have been a few weeks at most and he is still recovering.

Oh dear, sometimes the cure is worse than the hangover, but it seems to have worked! I hope Alex, Derek and the Three Amigos enjoy the game!

Huggs'
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I don't know if they will deal with the Watcher too soon. I suspect that Glorfindel would like to just keep an eye on it and not do anything to wake it up, a case of "let's leave sleeping orcs lie".

Anyway, Finrod's harp-playing has helped, and given who he is, I can't imagine his playing not helping, especially since he's had all these millennia to perfect his technique. *grin* And it's only been a couple of weeks since Alex's tumble, so he is still in a fragile state.

We'll see in the next chapter how everyone enjoyed the game (or not).

Poor Alex, that doesn't sound good. This job is destroying him, I really wonder what would have become of him if he hadn't ended up at the Academy and with the Elves. They might be the only ones able to help him. At that rate, the Agency might have ended up killing him because he becomes a security risk – for himself and others.

Now I am glad Finrod came; his music really appears to help Alex.

Glad to see the youngster is coming around. Though I can't recommend that method to make friends ;) In the end, he got along with Alex rather well.

Hmmm ... I'd fear Finrod more than Celeborn, too. He seems much more ruthless.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. I think you're right about the job destoying Alex which is why the Elves want him to leave the Agency and join forces with them. He'll do a lot better with them than with the Agency.

And Finrod is definitely more ruthless than Celeborn. Just ask any of those who have fallen into his hands: Laurendil, Vorondil, Alassiel.... *grin*

I'm glad that they are making amends. It will be OK.

Hopefully, Alex will be well...Oh, I forgot, POOR ALEX!

Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. Now that both sides have tested the other, hopefully they will be friends. Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Nothing like immersion to learn a new civilization and its customs. Wonder what they'll think of football? Heh!

Glad Finrod and his harp were there this morning.

Author Reply: Very true, Larner. We'll see what they think of football in the next chapter and Finrod never goes anywhere without his harp. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to coment. I greatly appreciate it.

What a powerful chapter in its muted horror. I have huge fears for all of them - more so than before. I truly like Alex and Artemus and hope he can be turned from the darkness inside.

Phew! I would hate to see the Elves being eaten by what I think might be a Balrog in Watcher in the Water disguise!

Author Reply: Hi Agape. I'm glad you found this a powerful chapter. I'm sure the Elves will do their best to help Alex and Artemus integrate and turn from the darkness. We'll see how that goes as the story progresses. And yeah, it was a pretty gruesome nightmare. Thanks for leaving a review. It's always appreciated.

Hi Fiondil,I feel for the three elves,as I also got blotto one night.Never again that's for sure.As for Alex's dream, why do I get the feeling that the Valar had something to do with it. Things are definitely starting to hot up.Can't wait to see where this story goes. Can't wait for the next chapter, something tells me that there is more to Alex and Derek's relationship than meets the eye.LOL Galathil.

Author Reply: Hi galathil. Alex and Derek's relationship is simply that of very good friends and nothing more, though with them both having a background in intelligence work, it is obvious why they were thrown together. I suspect the Valar are hoping the two of them will be an asset to Elf Academy in that regard. I'm glad you're looking forward to the rest of the story, for there's plenty more to come. Thanks for reviewing. I greatly appreciate it.
