Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 11 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 78 on 2/1/2013
Human and Elven healers working together could over time probably generate some amazing results, when I think about it. Combine the abilities of the Elves with our modern day medical equipment and knowledge and some things might be possible that have been unthinkable so far. This could be an interesting cooperation, particularly with the true purpose of the EA in mind.

It's sweet how worried Finda is about his father. In the beginning, he was quite a brat, but by now, I really like him and his two friends.

For some strange reason, I hope the medical staff at the hospital doesn't understand too much Quenya and Sindarin, if any at all. Finrod would be such a bad influence on their vocabulary!

While I hope Alex reconsiders his decision about the tour, it's touching that Finda wants to do it now. He has certainly been coming a long way since his arrival!

In case they don't release Finrod soon, I foresee them being forced to tie him to the bed – which wouldn't do anything to improve is mood.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Some of the hospital staff might know some Sindarin but probably not too much Quenya, though I don't think anyone needs to know the languages to figure out what Finrod is saying here. LOL!

Finda is maturing quite nicely and has learned a lot in the process of the kidnapping. I think seeing Alex "at work" has impressed him and he has more respect for him and for Derek. And I think he's beginning to be less bratty.

As for Finrod, I don't think they could tie him down for long. We'll have to see.

Thanks for leaving a review. It's very much appreciated.

Hey Fiondil, Great Chapter... Now, I have a question. What are we going to do with Alex's personalities?? Are the Valar going to integrate Artemis/Alex personalities and help make Al whole or what is the plan??

Inquiring minds would like to know??? Are we going to see the last battle the Dag Baurl...damn I forgot the name of the battle.. the Armageddon???

As always I am waiting for a Valar or Maia or two to pop into the story.. Maybe since it is Breast Cancer month we could have Este show up?? I have always liked Nessa because she married the strongest guy. Anyway just an Idea...

As for Thanksgiving Dinner, I can't wait to see how the elves of the Valinor enjoy some nice turkey and cornbread dressing with a side sweet potato casserole.

Oh, and Farrell needs his ass whooped. I hope he doesn't get paroled or any such nonsense..

Author Reply: Hi Calenlassiel. Your question about Alex will be answered by the end of the story. To give you an answer now would spoil things.

You mean the Dagor Dagorath? *grin* I have no idea. Certainly not in this particular story. Perhaps in a later sequel if the Muse ever allows it. I think the story of the preparations for Armageddon are far more interesting with the interactions of the Elves, Mortals, Maiar and Valar than the actual battle. But you never know.

We'll be seeing a couple of the Valar in the next chapter and we will see something of the Elves celebrating Thanksgiving in a subsequent chapter though the focus will be more on Alex than on the Elves, as you will see.

As for Farrell... only time will tell.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it.

I too have spent sleepless nights and commiserate with the lot of them. :-)

As for Maddy, I cannot help but think she has been chosen by Eru to join those preparing for the Dagor Dagorath.

Dear Glorfindel... pride can be a tricky thing. Eru did not put him there to judge his fellow Elves,

Finrod's recovery will not be complete until he deals with Farrell.

And Artemus will see, I hope, that all the parts of who he is, will be needed as he trains and works with Mortals and Elves. But I hope he learns soon, for Derek's sake.

Another great chapter.

Author Reply: Hi Agape. I think we can all relate to those suffering sleepless nights here. We'll see what role, if any, Maddy will be playing from here on out and you're right that Finrod's recovery won't be complete until he's dealt with Farrell.

As for Glorfindel, at least he recognizes that he was being prideful and knows that it's wrong, and that's his saving grace And Artemus... we'll have to see. The jury's still out on that one. Right now he's thinking as an agent who has completed his assignment and can just move on to the next one, except, that's not entirely the case here and he needs to come to grips with that before he can put aside the darker aspects of his personality and that "Alex" is an important part of his identity now.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

Poor Finrod. Hospitals are no fun... at least for the patient. I can't say I like Artemus. I prefer Alex. I know Alex is a fake persona, but he seemed to have a lot going for him. I hope Artemus can tone his dark persona down and let more Alex in. That would make him a lot more palatable for me. Having Lawrence do the tour instead of Artemus/Alex I want to see.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Yes, Artemus is fairly dark here and arrogant, as if the last three and a half months never happened. But I imagine that's how it is with him: as soon as an assignment is over he drops whatever persona he's using and becomes himself, the cynical, hardbitten, world-weary agent. Hopefully the Elves will show him that "Alex" would be a better fit for him if he plans to leave the spy business behind as he has been intimating he wants to do. We'll have to see how it goes.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it greatly.

Nice chapter. I wish to see what the Valinor elves will think about Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday, mainly because it haven't being corrupted with commercial sales, not yet. Families really keep the spirit of the holiday.
And I think that our Glorfindel is becoming mortal: “As for the rest, it is past and no one died,” “You can not change what has happened, so concentrate on the present" this is something that I don't think elves follow too much, they are always holding the past, at least it is my interpretation, being immortal make them moving on slower pace than mortal. Well, thank you and read you Monday. Have a nice weekend!

Author Reply: Hi Fantasi. We'll see the Elves celebrating Thanksgiving. They have a similar holiday in Aman according to Tolkien so the concept isn't entirely foreign to them. And as a Canadian friend pointed out to me, it seems that Thanksgiving is for Americans the paramount holiday for families, more so than Christmas and you're right that it has (luckily) not been corrupted by commercialism, for which we can all be thankful (no pun intended).

As a Reborn, Glorfindel has a different take on life than any of the Once-born, so his focus is more "present" than is typcial of most Elves, so it makes him seem more like a Mortal in his outlook. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Anyway, have a nice weekend yourself and thanks for leaving a review. I really appreciate it.

I am strongly hoping it is a LONG time before any of these is seriously injured again. The body starts copping out after too many injuries in too short a time, after all. But at least they have Farrell and company under control, or at least for the moment. Now, to hear the statements, and learn what can be learned from Farrell and his people.

Author Reply: Yes, too many blows to the head does have a deletrous effect on one's well-being. *grin* I don't think we have to worry about anyone getting seriously injured again anytime soon, Larner. And we'll see how things go with everyone soon enough. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I greatly appreciate it.

They are pink arn't they and why do the seem to think that one-size-fits-all when it comes to gowns!

Poor Finrod, he is not a happy camper is he, at least he is behaving himself for Findalaure's sake?

I am eagerly looking forward to how this all works out, I think this chapter could have been twice as long and I still would have wanted more.

Alex/Artemus is still conflicted but it looks like he is in full Artemus mode at the moment, I hope he can find his way back to Alex.

More please,
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. They always seem to be pink, at least the ones I've seen. Finrod is indeed an unhappy (and embarrassed) Elf and methinks Glorfindel is enjoying his discomfort a bit too much. *grin*

I'm glad you are looking forward to seeing how it all works out and we'll see soon enough if Artemus is able to find his way back to Alex or not.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much.

I think Derek also needs to make his peace with Artemus...Alex is really a part of Artemus, though perhaps the best part, and a part that has not been allowed out to play very often.

Vardamir really seems to be enjoying himself. It wouldn't surprise me if he decides to go through med school, just so that he can play with all those fascinating new toys! He seems like a little boy in a sweet shop with his pocket full of money. ;-)

I see that Finrod is going to be a difficult patient. Though perhaps Findalaurë's plea has stemmed part of his "difficult" leanings. And a good thing - gunshot wounds are nasty, nasty things! I still think hs healers hare going to have their hands full.

Tee-hee - did the nurses draw straws for the privilege of giving a sponge bath to their royal patient? I'm sure _they_, at least, enjoyed it! If any of the nurses know some Quenya or Sindarin, they are clearly getting quite a language lesson as a bonus!

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. You're right about Derek having to make peace with Artemus, which is hard because, until very recently, he has known only "Alex", who really doesn't exist.

Vardamir is very happy to be doctoring again. I think over time many of the healers in Aman will be migrating back to Middle-earth so they can practice medicine again.

As for the nurses, they probably have heard it all. I doubt Finrod is the first reluctant patient they've had to deal with and he won't be the last. *grin*

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

I am enjoying this story very much and look forward to every Monday & Friday. Will Alex return soon. I am very interested in the inner conflict between the two sides to his character.

Author Reply: Hi Rosealynn. I'm so glad you've been enjoying this story and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know. One has to remember that "Alex" is nothing more than a disguise that Artemus has put on. "Alex" in fact is an act. Artemus has always been in control, but there are aspects of his personality that are dark and those parts are what Artemus as Alex hates and wants to get rid of so that "Alex" can be more real than Artemus, if that makes any sense. Anyway. we'll see who "wins" -- Alex or Artemus -- before the story ends.

I'm glad that everyone is all right."Dreamily" I wish I was giving Finrod his sponge bath, sigh. I do feel for the two nurses though. The next chapter is going to be interesting.PS glad this "Maddy" finally showed up.Finally hope Farrell gets what coming to him.LOL Galathil(Is it Monday yet?)

Author Reply: "I wish I was giving Finrod his sponge bath."

You and every other female (and probably a few males) on the planet. LOL! The next chapter will be very interesting as you will see in a couple of days and it involves Maddy. We'll see what happens to Farrell soon enough. Thanks for leaving a review, Galathil. I appreciate it very much.
