The Journey Home  by Fiondil 11 Review(s)

Fiondil, a few comments in reviews mention a short story of yours that inspired this one. Could you please tell me the name; I don't believe I have read it before and now I'm naturally curious.

I'm even more curious where you are going with this story. The setting and time frame are so completely new. But after I was so bowled over by the grandeur of Wars of the Valar, my expectations are high by the idea of you exploring a brand new landscape (landscape in more than the literal sense).

I'm pretty sure I know which Elf they are talking about in the beginning, but I haven't the faintest idea who those others will be.

Author Reply: Hi Imhriiel. The short story can be found in my "Fiondil's Tapestry" collection: "ALONE: Out of Options", but you don't really need to read that to enjoy this story as I incorporate the short story into this one pretty much verbatim. So many people wanted to know what happened next that I promised that I would expand on the story and this is what resulted. Enjoy.

I don't believe I'd read this Prologue before. What a straightforward, yet loving, conversation.

Author Reply: How odd not to read the Prologue before plunging into the story. Oh well... I'm glad you found the conversation between the Valar both straightforward yet loving, Shirebound. The Valar are realists, if nothing else, but they do have a romantic streak to them, as well. Thanks for commenting. It's appreciated.

Atto,

I'm so sorry I've been quiet on reviews these last few weeks. I've been keeping up with the stories, though, I promise. (I loved how our Christmas present turned out, by the way, and I can't wait for EA3 to appear! =) But for now, this will do =) )

I love this conversation among the Valar! I notice you didn't use names, so I'm trying to figure out who said what, though I imagine a good deal of the talking was Manwe and Namo, lol. Having caught up, I do know who exactly they're talking about. I suspected it even when I first read this chapter, but I wasn't sure. The Valar sure are a sneaky lot, aren't they? I'm just glad the Straight Road isn't shut forever! How have you been doing? Happy Valentine's Day early!

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Except that it's obvious when Nämo is speaking and that the final sentence is spoken by Manwë, I left it ambiguous as to who else is speaking, leaving it to the imaginations of my readers.

I'm doing fine and Happy Valentines Day to you as well.

Oh, I was so happy to see that this is going to be the next story! Always wanted the extension for that oneshot, after all.

Now that's a rather unusual way to save someone's life – to set a huge carnivore on them! *grin*
Anyway, it seems that stubborn Elf is giving even the Valar some trouble. But they always find a way.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. A lot of people hoped to see this story. And yeah, it is a bit unusual, settng a carnivore on someone trying to kill himself to stop him from killing himself, but the Valar are nothing if not inventive. *grin* Hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Whoo hoo! Another story. Hooray, hooray. Neat premise, too!

Author Reply: Glad you found this, Agape. Happy reading.

*grumble* I never got an alert for the new story until the 2nd chapter. But now I have 3 chapters to read. I wonder who the main characters in this one will be. I guess I should just read on. I love the way you set the stage. Without anything really "happening", you set the mood and the stage for the new adventure.

Author Reply: Don't feel bad, obsidianj. I didn't get review alerts for this story either until very late on Monday and some of the earlier ones never came through. Sometimes the system cliches and story and review alerts aren't sent out in a timely manner. But now that you know this story is up, you can just check on Mondays and Fridays for it without needing an alert, right? *grin*

Anyway, I'm glad you liked how I set the stage and the mood for this story. This chapter is something of a teaser to draw people in, wondering what it's all about. I hope you find the rest of the story as enjoyable.

Hi Fiondil;I ask my self how did I miss this chapter. Answer I don't know.Have read and am hooked, about to read the next chapter. It will be interesting,to see who the Valar send (Wish we where having a "little bit" of snow and ice instead of this heat wave Australia)to meet with The Elf. I have my own opinion on who our elf is,be interesting to see if I'm right.Off to read the next chapter.LOL Galathil

Author Reply: Hi Gaalthil. Possibly because I just posted this chapter, as this is a new story. And I would rather take the heat wave then the snow and ice that I have to deal with any day of the week, trust me. *grin* Hope you enjoy the story. THanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

So, hopw]e of return remains even in this cold age. And the way is frozen? Interesting--then north might prove the way indeed. Now--which?

Author Reply: We'll find out as the story progresses, Larner.

I have been trying to figure out which of the Valar are having this conversation, Manwe and Namo obviously and, I think, possibly, Irmo. This is snother of those occasions when being a fly on the wall would be an advantage!

I remember the kerfluffle when you wrote the short story that this is an expansion of. We live in interesting times!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I suspect all the Valar are in on the discussion but the only two of them we can say for sure are there are Manwë and Námo. I purposely did not specify who was saying what, though in one instance you can tell it's Námo speaking because of what is said, because in speaking mind-to-mind, they are all in on the conversation wherever they happen to be.

And we do indeed live in interesting times.

I love your writing. It makes me want to brush out my paper and pens and draw. Creating is such a wonderful outlet for feelings. And you, sir must have some very good ones to create something so wonderful and addicting. Hmmm now who can it be? ;)

Author Reply: Hi Laer. I wish I had the talent to draw some of the scenes that I write, but I don't. Do feel free to draw them yourself. *grin* As to who it can be, we'll find out soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.
