The Journey Home  by Fiondil 16 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 11 on 12/23/2013
Hi! Yep, I'm still alive and starting on another attempt to catch up with the reviewing, after only reading all of it when it was posted. Let's see how far I get this time.

These animals remind me of sabre-toothed tigers, from the description. Or maybe some sort of mutation of them, as they sound a bit too intelligent to be just that sort of animal.

Maglor may insist on Denethor being the leader, but he certainly takes over when he thinks it necessary, does he? In any case, his tactics worked rather well. I am glad the Elves got away unscathed; it didn't look too good in the beginning.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Yes, these are a version of sabre-tooths (there were several different species), but I think they were tinkered with by Morgoth, or at least their ancestors were, hence the heightened intelligence. And Maglor is a natural born leader and just can't help it.

Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

Wow! Another great and gripping chapter. I loved the beasts. They were quite frightening with their intelligence. Watch the flank indeed. And who would have ever thought that you'd have to be afraid of kitty cats. *g*

It will be good to 'see' the towers.

Well done.

Author Reply: Hi Agape. The cats are quite frightening with their intelligence and we haven't seen the last of them, unfortunately.

Thanks for taking the time to review. I really appreciate it.

First the half-orcs and now these cats. They sure sped the group of elves along. That was quite some race. I like the dynamic between Denethor and Maglor. They should work out a short-hand for when Maglor should take over. Denethor has by far not the battle-experience that Maglor has. They lose valuable time when they discuss strategy in a dicey situation that requires fast decisions. Loved the "kitty-kitty" comment. Luckily, I was not drinking anything.

Author Reply: Hi obisidianj. I'm glad you like the dynamics between Maglor and Denethor. I thing you're right that they need to work on signals for when Maglor should take over, but I doubt they'll bother. Maglor is Maglor and just naturally takes over when the situation warrants it and Denethor is probably secretly happy to let him do so.

Anyway, thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Sounds like a sort of sabretooth tiger, or a feline version of the Wargs. Glad the foul things were easily confused by unexpected behavior and that they were finally conquered.

And the towers still stand, if somewhat damaged? Fascinating!

Author Reply: Yes, that's essentially what they are and they are similar to the creatures Glorfindel encountered in Aman as described in "Elf, Interrupted: Book Two".

And the towers still stand, for which the Elves will be grateful.

Thanks, Larner.

These are the same kind of cat-things that Glorfindel had a couple of encounters with back in EI, right? So are they of the same lineage, for want of a better word, or has some fallen Maia cooked up a new batch of them?

I liked Voronwë's "Here, kitty, kitty." But I suppose that like all cats they will want to do things in their own time, if at all. Maglor clearly wasn't having any of that, though. The cats were a threat to them all, and getting rid of them was clearly a necessity.

Author Reply: Yes, they are, Sunny, or at least very distant descendants who managed to cross over to Middle-earth before Valinor was removed from the Circles of Arda.

Maglor is not one to sit around and let others dictate his life for them, including intelligent evil cats who won't cooperate by coming close enough to be skewered by arrows. So, swords will have to do. Luckily, the cats were just surprised enough that the Elves were able to best them, but we will see later that the threat from these creatures is not over.

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

"Are you insane?" *LOL* I dunno Maglor, I always wondered about Feanorian sanity. And charging at them with swords like that... weeeeell. Although it worked, I suppose. Hm, so it seems someone (or something, considering) is meddling - one wonders if this is a random attack or if there is some actual plan to stop them (and if so, why)

Author Reply: Hi bookworm. Yeah, well, I don't think we can ever say that Maglor is working with a full deck. LOL! As for the cat-creatures, who can really say? I doubt the Elves will ever really know the answer to that question. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

I sure like how these are coming along!

Author Reply: Thanks for letting me know, DJ. I appreciate it very much.

It is sad to see everything empty and ruined. Have you ever seen any of the episodes of Life after people? It is a documentary series (on History channel, I think), showing how man-made objects would slowly be ruined by time if mankind suddenly disappeared. Some of your descriptions occasionally remind me of the series. Depressing.

Looking forward for more.

Author Reply: Hi Ellynn. Don't have TV so have never seen the show. And no doubt it will happen someday. Nothing, not even we, can last forever. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the story in spite of it being somewhat depressing with its descriptions of everything being empty and ruined. I appreciate you letting me know. Thanks.

Wow! That was exciting!

Author Reply: I'm glad you found it so, curiouswombat. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Getting attacked by big cats is bad enough, but unnatural big cats? And they manage to find the one group of Elves in that part of the world? Something's afoot in Middle-Earth.

Denethor freaked out a little bit there. I don't blame him – talk about crunch time. There's a really interesting dynamic between Denethor and Maglor developing, I can't wait to see where it goes.

-Kevana

Author Reply: Denethor and Maglor are building a very interesting relationship between them and it will be a major part of the storyline. And whether there is something afot in Middle-earth remains to be seen. Thanks for comenting, Kevana. It's greatly appreciated.
