The Journey Home  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 15 on 12/23/2013
It's really sad to imagine what Thurin must have endured to behave more like a wild animal – for that it how it sounds in parts. One has to wonder how long he was left to himself, for I agree it had to be quite a while when he even forgets how to talk and everything. Poor guy. I am very glad they found him. And I completely agree with Maglor, it was no coincidence. The Harthadrim were meant to not only save Maglor himself, but Thurin as well.

It's good that Thurin seems to trust Maglor already, that will make things easier, even if Maglor will have to play babysitter for a while. If he'd still shy away from them as he did at first, it would make things much more problematic. And it appears as if it gives Maglor a task he looks forward to and that will help him in a way, too.

Author Reply: Very sad indeed, Kitty, but luckily he's been found and the others will do all they can to help him. Maglor probably is remembering when he took care of Elrond and Elros. He no doubt misses being a "Dad". *grin*

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

How long do you have to be alone to forget how to speak? That's frightening and heartbreaking. It's amazing Thurin is even alive. You'd think most Elves in such straits would have faded. It's like Thurin went in completely the opposite direction, doing anything to survive, even losing parts of himself in the bargain. I'm sure it'll take time for them to get a story out of him, if they ever do at all, but I have to wonder at the things he must have seen and done in all those years. I don't doubt such isolation would drive most mad. Though, on that note, who better to help Thurin recover than Maglor, who's known ages of isolation of a different sort?

Poor baby. :(

On a lighter note it wouldn't surprise me if Elves have built-in detangler in their hair, LOL. It seems like the kind of thing they'd have. You cannot tell me they could go around frolicking through the woods with long, flowing locks without getting their hair stuck full of twigs and dirt otherwise. (Looking at you, Legolas.)

-Kevana

Author Reply: It is frightening and heartbreaking to think how long Thurin has been isolated from elven society slowly losing parts of himself. It will take a little time to learn his story but we will learn it, never fear.

And elvish built-in detangler sounds about right. LOL!

Thanks for reviewing, Kevana. I appreciate it.

A good job they did not give Thurin too much to eat to start with, otherwise it might have come right back up.

Sunny is spot on with the long hair care tips, I am sure the Elves have some concoction they use to keep tangles under control, having had all the time they have had to come up with something.

I wonder how long Thurin has been without clothes, since he seems to be O.K. with wearing them?

Slowly catching up with reviews.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I'm sure the Elves have figured out how to deal with long hair and I think their hair might have been different from those of most mortals so perhaps the tangles weren't quite so bad. At any rate, I don't know how long THurin's been without clothes, but apparently he's quite happy wearing them now (and probably warmer *grin*).

Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it.

That will take some doing to "civilize" the stranger. But Maglor seems to have a knack for gaining the strangers trust and the patience. Now I'm curious how long it will take to get the story of the poor elf.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. I suspect it will take some doing, though, having once been civilized it might not take as long as everyone thinks. As for learning Thurin's story, it won't take too long, I promise. Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

Poor Thurin, perhaps he is a child who lost his parents at the towers and that is why he stopped? Glad they are going to take care of him, he needed someone. Loved what Ragnor said about "can we keep him" ahhhh such a lovely little chapter :)

Author Reply: Hi Laer. I don't think the towers were ever inhabited and while they are referred to as Elf Towers, they were specifically built for Elendil and the Númenóreans-in-Exile; these towers belonged to Men, not Elves. At any rate, the Harthadrim will take care of Thurin and make him one of their own, as we will see. Thanks for commenting. It's greatly appreciated.

Well, he's apparently been "civilized" in the past. It will be interesting to see him recovering what memories he may have suppressed, and I wonder if there are any others he once was of a party with.

Author Reply: Apparently, Larner. He just needs to be reminded of that which he once knew. And we'll find out if there were others with him at one time and what became of them eventually. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's much appreciated.

dsadkhsdl Aawwww Maglor. SUCH a good big brother. And I love how he's slowly realising how deep he sunk himself, and how little he ACTUALLY wants to die. Also that last line *LOL*

Author Reply: Hi bookworm. Yes, Maglor is a very good big brother and I think he's finally realizing that dying was never the answer. I'm glad you loved the love line. It's a classic, isn't it? *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

EllynnReviewed Chapter: 15 on 3/25/2013
Hmmm... Daeron? (Of course, you don't have to answer. This is just me thinking out loud. ;) )

Very interesting chapter. :)

Author Reply: We'll find out who he is eventually. You should know me by now, though, to know that I rarely do the obvious. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Ellynn. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.

FantasiaReviewed Chapter: 15 on 3/25/2013
“Look what followed us home, Ada. Can we keep him?” This made me laugh.

It seems that Maglor has a gift on being a Father. He will help the Thurin, no doubt, he did very well with the twins.

Now, I feel comfortable with Maglor's state of mind, for first time, I see him happy and sure of being alive, with a purpose.

Thanks Fiondil

Author Reply: I thought that was pretty funny, too, Fantasia. Yes, Maglor is falling back on his experience in raising the twin sons of Eärendil and Elwing and is perhaps even feeling happy about it. I think Maglor needs to be needed and helping Thurin will give him that. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

SunnyReviewed Chapter: 15 on 3/25/2013
So is Maglor going to get another foster son? I think it would be good for him to take care of the ellon, who is obviously in an even worse state than himself.
Untangling Thurin's dreadlocks would have been quite a piece of work, and it wouldn't have been made easier by washing his hair. First rule of tangles, for longhairs - detangle your hair _before_ washing, and then wait until the hair is dry again after washing before combing. And use lots of conditioner, though the Elves don't have that, of course.
I wonder how the poor ellon is going to handle the Ellith fussing over him?

Author Reply: I guess he is, Sunny. We'll see how their relationship progresses from here. I don't think I'm going to go in and change the bit about untangling Thurin's hair. It's too much trouble and I figure Elvish hair might be different enough that it's easier to get tangles out. Whatever. As for how Thurin reacts to the ellith fussing over him, we'll see soon enough. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it.
