The Rings of Evendim  by shirebound 18 Review(s)
PSWReviewed Chapter: 2 on 11/19/2015
'The modest grace that so complimented her beauty.' I loved this line -- modesty really does make beauty shine, doesn't it? :-)

Having just read The Vault of Annuminas, these have been delightful chapters as it is all fresh in my mind and I see the similarities and differences. I laughed about The Hobbit, the Elf, and the Ranger, and it's a little bittersweet to think that Scamp isn't with them this time. I'm anxious to hear Frodo's story, and to see what has been planned for them.

Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Just when I thought there would never be another "Quarantined" story... the Muse had other ideas! Reading it right after "Vault" is so awesome. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. :)

Much to love in this chapter, but I think my favorite line was: " Elessar walked next to Frodo’s pony, with each hobbit child taking a turn on his shoulders." I like to think that Strider would have been a King that didn't always stand on pomp and ceremony and always appearing untouchably dignified (though at times that was no doubt required)--somehow that sort of monarch suits him ill. But walking along with his friends, carrying a child on his shoulders... that's just how I see him. And seeing Elanor made the Queen's maiden was so touching and sweet. I also greatly enjoyed your descriptions of the city. It's always fascinating to see how everyone plies their imagination for those details Tolkien left unsaid.

A lovely chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I've always loved how relaxed Aragorn can be in this "Q" universe, especially having known all four hobbits since they were children.

What a blessing that the Professor left us so many gaps to fill! I've greatly enjoyed imagining the city before being rebuilt ("The Vault of Annuminas") and after.

The part with Elanor was just adorable... I think you posted this chapter when I was sick as a dog with my gallbladder attack, and I never reviewed! I just love the lightheartedness of it.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Lily. Whenever I can weave light talk and nice surprises into my tales, I leap at the chance.

I hope you're feeling MUCH better now.

So, there are surprises to be anticipated on both sides, then. Good enough! And I do hope they revisit the secret chamber again! And I agree with Lindelea--it is wonderful to see Frodo healed and happy and eager with anticipation!

Author Reply: There are definitely surprises in store for everyone, which makes the story such fun to write. Thank you for reading! As you know, Frodo "healed and happy" brings me great joy.

Oh, what do the hobbits have to tell Aragorn and Gimli, and what does Aragorn have planned for them? You got me hanging.

What a sweet arrival. Yay for getting to see Arwen bestowing the handmaid position on Elanor.

I love the star shape of the city.

Author Reply: Thank you, I'm so glad you like that chapter. Part of the mystery will be revealed in chapter 3 (and another part in chapter 4).

Elanor must be the happiest hobbit lass in all of Middle Earth now :-)

And she was not ordered to the court, she was asked to give her consent! From the Queen! Wow!

Now I am curious to find out what the hobbits' secret is AND what Aragorn and his people have planned for the next day. Frodo is not so eager to find out, it seems ;-)

Author Reply: Glad you're enjoying this, Andrea. Dear Frodo has probably been living a peaceful, quiet life, and is unused to any fuss (except from Sam and Rosie of course).

I've been trying so hard to find time to write chapter 3... hopefully soon!

Okay, that's it. I want to move to Annuminas. Now. It's all your fault for making it so wonderful. :-) I loved the scene between Elanor and Arwen. Exactly as I'd imagine it to be, but with the blissful addition of a proud Frodo to witness it. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thank *you* so much! Ohhh, so many things Frodo can enjoy and share in if he remains in the Shire, happy and healed. It's such a joy to imagine it all.

Now I wonder what Frodo's secret is and how he got healed. Loved the hobbit children. They know what is important. Food first!

Author Reply: Thanks so much. I'm enjoying writing another hobbity tale, and look forward to the secrets being shared with Aragorn.

We wonders what these secrets are, yes, my precious, we wonders...

You would love the Facebook page Concerning Hobbits. I certainly do. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Secrets will be revealed soon!

I'm not on Facebook, at least not yet. :)

A lovely greeting by the King and Queen, though I'm with the kids: eat first, visit later. LOL! And we get to see how Elanor becomes a lady-in-waiting. Wonderful. And the referenece to Frodo's previous visit to Annúminas now makes we want to go back and re-read that story again. I'm so glad to see you writing again, shirebound. Your stories are always a delight to read.

Author Reply: Thank you for your kind review. The Professor left us with such tantalizing gaps to fill, and they're especially fun to imagine in an AU that I love so much.

I'm so happy to *be* writing again, even if it's at a slow pace. I'm delighted that you're enjoying this series.
