Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 78 on 11/14/2014
Now that was a bit anticlimactic, Gareth finally admitting that he has found his future wife and Gwyn already knowing. Misty couldn't have waited to let Gareth tell him himself, could she? But I certainly hope Gwyn can talk her out of the idea marrying again would be a betrayal of her former husband. That may be true among immortal Elves, but he was mortal, after all, and it's not very likely they will ever meet again, save the world is remade and the Elves and Men will be together after that.

Oh, I hope the brothers can talk their parents into coming for the wedding; by now I am pretty curious to meet them and hopefully learn a bit more about them.

Author Reply: A bit anticlimactic, but realistic, I think. And Misty didn't tell Gwyn about the bonding, just that Gwyn and Nell were interested in one another. Anyway, we'll see how successful Gwyn is in convincing Misty that it's okay to love him and even marry him.

Thanks for leaving a review, Kitty.

So Gwyn already knew...well, mostly, LOL! And he's interested in Misty? That's going to be fun.

Glad the brothers are going to learn Tengwar. It's such a beautiful script. I was never terribly interested in learning the languages, but I was always attracted to those beautiful letters!

Author Reply: Tengwar is a beautiful script. When I was a teenager, my best friend and I wrote to one another (his parents moved to the next town over) in tengwar, though of course it was in English and not in Sindarin or Quenya. As we both had younger siblings, it was a great way to keep things secret. *grin*

We'll see how successful Gwyn is in wooing Misty, though probably not until we get to Elf Academy 4 which is being written even as I write this review.

Thanks for reviewing, Dreamflower.

As to that debate on which outlook is better - I don't think one is better, maybe one or another is just more appropriate to the situation, hm? If feels like they're having to learn how to shuffle cards from different decks to make a whole one to play with.

The truth comes out... And then comes out *again*! Now there's a shocker! Of course Misty should be able to marry if she wants, not only was her first marriage so long ago, it's not as if hearts only have so much love to give and then no more. She can remember her mortal husband with love without denying that she has a future yet to live and someone who cares for her. I think she is a very wise lady and hope she will understand that, if she really is attracted to Gwyn.

Gwyn, you are one bold guy, buddy.

*grin* I can't help but imagine Aegnor standing there all offended at essentially being called daft. Poor guy, that story always made me sad but it's also so incredible for all that it was tragic. Anyway.

I cannot wait to find out what happens with the ultrasound situation!

-Kevana

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. You're right that neither outlook is better or worse than the other, just different and would be applied differently depending on the situation. What the Elves on either side of the issue haven't realized yet is that both outlooks are needed for them to succeed.

Hopefully, Gwyn will be able to convince Misty that she's not breaking any Eru-given laws by falling in love with one of her own kind. I'm sure Eru will be able to straighten things out at the End as to which husband is which. *grin*

The story of Aegnor and Andreth is very sad and tragic.

We'll see what happens with the ultrasound soon enough, I promise.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

At first I thought Misty might be too old for Gwyn, but she sounds very young at heart in this chapter. How ironic that both brothers had similar secrets to tell each other!

I must confess, I am very curious about their parents.

Author Reply: Well, as Glorfindel once told Nicole Lord when the subject came up, after your first millennium, nobody bothers to keep count. If you're immortal, I guess it really doesn't remember what your actual age is. And Misty is young at heart, or at least, has learned to see life in that respect, which helps to keep her from fading, I suppose. At any rate, we'll see how her relationship with Gwyn progresses. Thanks for reviewing, Lindelea. I appreciate it.

So, Gwyn had a secret to tell as well. At least that made Gareth' story go over easier. Now, I'm really looking forward to meeting the parents. They will be in for a shock. I don't think they expected their sons to meet some elves and, voila, both find love interests. I do hope Misty and Gwyn can make a go of it. Staying alone for all the ages of Arda is not a prospect I would look forward to. Misty needs someone.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Everyone is looking forward to meeting the parents. I hope nobody is disappointed in them when they do; I find them interesting and funny myself. As for Gwyn and Misty, hopefully they'll be an item as well. It's early days yet in their relationship but I am hopeful. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Yea!!! Misty might find love again!! I'd hoped for a match between her and Glorfindel but Gwyn will do quite nicely.
I cant believe that I'm a little offended by the Elves attitude towards mating with mortals. What's up with that?? We'd fall at their feet and they act like we're their retarded cousins? Well at least we'd die before they'd get tired of us. Kiss my mocha mortal butt guys!😝
In spite of it all I've really liked getting into Gareth's head these last few chapters. I think I'm liking the brothers more and more.
Where've the twins from hell been btw? Thanx for writing.
The Dude abides.

Author Reply: Hi Diana. Well, historically, there have been only a handful of Elf-Mortal matings and they do end rather tragically in most cases if only because one of them ends up dying in the end while the other either dies of grief or continues on. As Finrod said to Andreth, according to the Athrabeth, he could only see such a union occurring for high purposes according to Eru's plans for both races, and not for common reasons. I think Mithrellas's mating with a Mortal was a special case and their offspring remained Mortal, though long-lived in comparison to those around them. But as it is constantly pointed out, he died ages ago and has left the circles of the world never to return until possibly at the end and so marrying Gwyn would not be a betrayal. At any rate, we'll see how it goes between them. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing things from Gareth's POV these last few chapters. As for the Twins, we'll catch up with them eventually. They're busy being doctors. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

It would appear that Gwyn wasn't surprised. Heh! Now, to learn if we'll meet the parents? As Mithrellas's husband died many eons ago and he was mortal, it's not as if she's playing her late husband false. And who knows? He might just have come back as an Elf this time!

Author Reply: Hi Larner. We will indeed meet the parents when they come for Roy and Sarah's wedding, but that's not going to be immediately. And while I don't believe in reincarnation, it is an intriguing idea that her husband would come back to her as an Elf, but I don't think Eru works that way, at least not in my stories. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

FYI: I noticed in reading near the end, Gareth is Skyping with Nell. When they finish you have Gwyn shutting down the computer. Don't you mean Gareth?

Now on to the review. You are throwing in some spicy interactions here just before the wedding. Somehow I don't think this is going to be a nice calm quiet wedding. If nothing else if Elladan follows some mortal traditions for the bachelor party, things could get interesting.

I'm glad Misty is thinking about a courtship with Gwyn. Like the brothers said, it has been umpteen years since she was married to a mortal. I remember something I think in EI1, where someone was talking about Misty not considering another marriage. It seemed like the speaker was hoping she would find someone someday. Here's hoping.

And yes! Team ap Hywel is going to show the other elves they are not country bumpkins. I see a determination to excel in their learning projects. I hope that they succeed in their attempt.

Hope you have a great weekend. I am on the road this weekend but had to bring my tablet so I could read this chapter.

Author Reply: Hi rikki. Thanks for pointing out the error. It's been corrected.

With regards to Misty, you may be thinking of a conversation between Glorfindel and Nicole Lord in Elf Academy 2 where the subject of Misty comes up and Nicole hopes that she finds love. We'll have to see how successful Gwyn is in pressing his suit.

And the ap Hywel brothers are not country bumpkins and they can certainly teach the Elves from Valinor a thing or two.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. Good luck in your travels.

Ah, spring, when a young ellon's fancy turns to love.

Seriously, though, I like the idea of Misty and Gwyn. I'm not sure how he's going to court her, though. I'm glad you'll be coming up with that, not me.

Why do I get the feeling that there's going to be some big revelation at the wedding?
~Eruherdiriel

Author Reply: Hi Eruherdiriel. I'm glad you like the idea of Misty and Gwyn. I think they will make a cute couple. As for courting her, I'm sure he'll think of something. There are plenty of stories out there of long-distance courtships even in our own world. *grin*

As for revelations, we'll just have to see.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Gareth telling Gwyn about his meeting with Nielluin went fairly well, though I had to laugh at the comment about Gareth's "sort of" marriage being like "a little pregnant". And Gwyn had a secret of his own to confess, too, I see. I do hope Gwyn (and Gareth) will be able to convince Mithrellas to make a go at marriage again, though I guess all the other Elves will be shocked down to their toenails.
I'm really, really looking forward to the elder ap Hywels' arrival so that I can get a ringside seat when the boys tell them what they have been getting up to - namely, getting girlfriends. And if Mithrellas is still reluctant to make a commitment to Gwyn at that point, I'm sure Isault will be happy to help her son overcome Mithrellas' reluctance. And since Mithrellas has now been a widow for however many thousands of years, and with no prospect of her ex returning from Mandos, since he was a Mortal, it's definitely time for her to get a life of her own again. Besides, I suspect Iseult will want grandelflings from BOTH her sons!
I wonder if the Wiseman Elves will be able to get the watching Maiar to share some gossip about the socia nukes that are sure to go off in Aman with all the recent news from the Mortal world? Maybe Amroth or Nimrodel could try to extract a promise about reports on the reactions of the Amanian in return for the copy of the ultrasound picture.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. While many of the Elves will no doubt be shocked if they learn that Gwyn and Misty are getting together, not all of them will be. Amroth already suspects and no doubt Della, too, and I'm sure they are rooting for them if secretly.

I hope you enjoy your ringside seat when the elder ap Hywels show up and the boys have to tell them about things.

And getting the Maiar to tell them about reactions in Valinor over recent events sounds like a good idea. Now all they have to do is corner one. LOL!

Thanks for commenting, Sunny. I appreciate it very much.
