Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)
FV_WhisperReviewed Chapter: 97 on 12/7/2014
Had to giggle at the tittle already. And thinking about it, for many of the new arrivals, this is their first encounter with Mortals, including two of the three kings.

So it was Legolas who alerted the police. I think that tells quite a thing about him, like how he takes on his duties. But also how he doesn't mind seeing his Mortal superiors as his real superiors, even in the company of the three Aman kings. I do not think many of the Elves residing in Wiseman, not even the perfect law abiding ones, would in their hearts really place Dave Michaelson above the Aman rulers.

And speaking of the latter, Dave is splendid as always. He's such a great character, at one point there's no doubt he's a friend and ally of these Elves, but he's also not allowing himself to become their running boy, so to speak of. Him understanding and speaking Quenya was excellent and quite a surprise for the kings. And I think Dave is so glad having taking those courses now.

Only an Elf can call a walk from Wild Lake to Wiseman a excursion for sure. I guess after the apathy of Aman, most of the newcomers Elves did indeed welcome such a thing as a most pleasant change.

I wonder who of the new coming Elves will eventually stay despite everything. I have a feeling some will still insist to stay behind.

The flower scent coming from all the Maiar fading from view must have been quite a thing. And speaking of Maiar..Alex as Fionwë’s Bane lol! Him just sneaking into the Kremlin adds up to both his spy and coolness factor I would say. As does him being a sword brother to the Maiar twins as well.

The Elves being there during the time of the elections is a most interesting things and one can wonder wether this was one of the reasons the wedding taking place now as it is. I think both Mortal's and Elves will have some lessons that will need to be learned during this period.

Alex inviting both the ap Hywels, and Nells parents over to dinner is going to be most interesting. Has the poor Man any idea who's he's just been inviting?

Author Reply: Hi FV_Whisper. Legolas has certainly shown where his loyalties lie now with his contacting Michaelson, who continues being cool. Alex remains is usual cool self as well with his dismissal of the police blockade. Obviously, he's way above them there. We'll see how things go with everyone between the wedding and the elections and Alex probably doesn't care who he's invited to dinner. That's just the sort of person he is.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

I love this chapter. The meeting between police and elves went better than I feared. Luckily Dave is a cool police chief. Loved his comment in Quenya. That shut up some people right there. Legolas did the right think in calling his boss. Dave had time to come to terms with the news before he saw how many there were and he now knows that Legolas is serious about his job.
Alex was great. Fionwe's bane? LOL! But true. That should get him the respect or at least some acceptance from most of the visitors.
What is with Turgon? What bothers him?
I loved the way Glorfindel and Finrod took command and told everyone what to do. Let's hope all the warnings and Maiar sentinels will keep the peace.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Dave is certainly cool and I'm sure he appreciated the heads up from Legolas. Alex is... Alex and even the Elves need to respect that. If even Glorfindel says he walks carefully around him, that has to tell them something about the Mortal. As for Turgon, we'll learn more about what's up with him later on. There's a story there, believe me. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

I have had this scene running through my head all day of Ingwe being interviewed by an I.N.S agent.

"Ah, erm, Mr. Ingwe is it, can you tell me when and where you were born?"

"well let me think, it must have been about six or seven ages ago on the shores of Cuvinen and I wasn't born, I came from the thought of Eru Illuvitar!"

I.N.S. agent calls for back up and to reserve a padded cell for the delusional gentleman!

I can imagine the head ache just trying to process the arrests of all the Valinorian wedding guests! Oy Vay!

I hope the Maia and Wiseman Elves are able to keep a tight rein on every body other wise it could be a total disaster that would take several ages to sort out! I am not sure just what the Valar are doing allowing so many to leave Valinor, including all the Kings, I trust Ingoldo is under lock and key?

I hope somebody remembers to call the caterers and let them know the wedding party has had a few people added to the guest list!

Waiting for Friday and a few explanations.

Foot is getting better slowly, not being able to stay off it hasn't helped, but it is getting there.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: That would be an interesting conversation, wouldn't it? LOL! At any rate, I don't think we need worry about the INS right now. I'm sure the Maiar have everything under control, though that is not to say that interesting things won't happen along the way as we'll see. Thanks for commenting, Lynda. I'm glad to hear the foot is improving. Hugs back.

Didn't Nate specifically say somewhere in EA2 that it's not his place to interfere with mortal justice, or that he's not allowed to solve murders for people, or something like that? (I'm too tired to look it up right now, or remember the context).

Author Reply: He may have said something about it, Sasha (and I'm not about to slog through EA2 to find the reference), but I suspect it was to deter the Mortals from seeking to recruit him to solve their crimes for them. However, being a Vala, he is free to do as he sees fit and he didn't so much solve the murders as point the police in the right direction. They had all the evidence; they just didn't know what they were looking at. Michaelson admits that all the evidence pointed to one particular person but he was such an unlikely suspect that no one pursued it ten years earlier.

Oh, this was wonderful! I loved it that Alex showed up and the burgeoning respect that developed towards him once his exploits were put in a context that the Valinorean Elves could understand. Yep, I agree, the Kremlin is most definitely the mortal Angband. I'm suspecting that Turgon hasn't been out of Mandos and Lorien for too long, his behavior seems to be as rash as that of certain other Reborn Elves we know and love once upon a time.

I'd love to be a patron at the cafe at tomorrow night's dinner and I'm looking forward to seeing Derek again. It sounds like it will be fun. Let me see, what other things did I especially like about the chapter? Legolas having been the person to call the cops, Dave Michaelson's calm acceptance of Alex's opinion of the blockade (I think that Dave wouldn't mind having Alex on the force), the description of Alex's t-shirt, Gareth's nickname, The news that Alex is known among the Maiar as "Fionwe's Bane", the reaction of the Valinoreans finding out that Nate is none other than Namo, the list goes on and on.

This was such a treat after a very long and busy Monday at work and class. Thank you, meldonya!

Edlyn

Author Reply: Hi Edlyn. I'm glad you liked this chapter and you pretty much hit upon all the fun parts. LOL! We'll be at the café for the dinner, I promise, and you'll have a front-row seat to the action. *grin* We'll learn more about Turgon in a later chapter as well and we'll see why he is acting as he is. There's more going on than is obvious. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It's much appreciated.

This story gets better with each chapter. You have me very curious (a dangerous thing) about what is going on between Turgon and Glorfindel. I cannot wait till Friday.

Author Reply: Hi Bootsgrandma. We'll see how Glorfindel and Turgon resolve matters between them after the wedding though we'll learn why Turgon is the way he is shortly. Thanks you for letting me know how much you are enjoying this story. I appreciate it very much.

Now, this went reasonably well. Nobody fainted, was injured, or arrested - though Dave Michaelson did threaten to do just that. I don't think he was entirely serious about starting arresting people. The Valar's meddling hands are glaringly obvious here, and I doubt Dave would want to start head-butting with _them_. And as recent arrivals from Valinor the wedding guests would have had no idea where they should have pitched their tents so as to avoid charges of trespassing (and anyway, the Maiar did it for them.)

Oooh, I loved the way Alex just sauntered in, cool as a cucumber, and going all, "Blockade? What blockade? I didn't see no blockade." *sniggers*

So now Alex is being the bogeymann to the new arrivals? I suppose that is reasonable, in its way. Most of the wedding guests would know, or at least know of the Elves in Wiseman, and know, sort of, what they may be capable of. Alex, as a Mortal, is quite another ballgame! And he did manage to take Fionwë down twice, something that certainly would do his reputation no harm among the Elves.

Turgon really needs to lighten up!

So neither the current Elven residents of Wiseman nor the Guardian Maiar will permit any of the visitors to stay? How ... disappointing. *pouts* I was all set to make a mental list, over the next few chapters, over just which Elves that would be all set to dig in their heels and refuse to go when the departure date arrived. Elrond and Celebrían, as well as Serindë's brothers were on top of my incipient list, of course! ;-)

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. I'm sure Dave was merely being facetious. And Alex is very cool the way he saunters in. You're right, that as a Mortal, Alex would be an unknown for the new arrivals and if Glorfindel even admits walking softly around him, that should make them sit up and take notice. Turgon has issues which will be addressed later in the story.

As for the prohibition against any of the visitors staying, that's not strictly true, but the list of those who remain behind will be very short and certain people will not be allowed to stay even if they want to, so go ahead and make your list and see how close you come. *grin*

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

I love how Alex handled everything. He's just great.

Why is Turgon so touchy? Is he recently Reborn?
~Eruherdiriel

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the way Alex handled everything, Eruherdiriel. As for Turgon, we'll learn more about him and why he's acting as he is in a subsequent chapter. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 97 on 12/1/2014
Just the realization that the Elves came from Wild Lake and considered the journey to town to be a pleasant excursion must have been a shock to Michaelson! And Turgon definitely has a good deal more to think on now. I hope the young Man attending UCLA has not suffered unduly for his early experiences, and that he is a gentler and kinder individual for what he has been through.

Author Reply: Hi Larner. Yes, I imagine that it would be a shock to the Mortals. We'll learn more about the boy Alex rescued in a later chapter, but I'm sure he's a joy to his adopted parents. Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it very much.

LOL! Love the cameo by Alex. Bane, indeed! Lots of things I love about the chapter but typing on my phone is a pain...

Wondered in the last chapter why Loren might be in danger of slipping his leash, meeting Turgon once more?

Author Reply: Hi Lindelea. I'm glad you love Alex's cameo and the chapter as a whole. Glorfindel has a lot of baggage where Turgon is concerned as is evident from things that happened to him in "Elf, Interrupted". We'll see how he and Turgon resolve matters between them later. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.
