Little to Tell  by Saelind 6 Review(s)

Oh, what an absolutely wonderful encounter! I love the idea that Bilbo might have had a conversation with Gilraen.

Nicely written, as well--it was neat to see the way you put in the foreshadowing of a certain little poem that will one day be written by Bilbo. Perhaps, without knowing it, Gilraen was his muse.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I've had this idea kicking around in my head for awhile now, and was glad to finally get the chance to put it to virtual paper. And I'm glad you enjoyed that bit of foreshadowing...it first came to me on a whim, but the more I thought of it the more I really liked the idea of Gilraen indirectly being the muse for a poem written about her son :)

Hmm--she's giving him half his poem! (Grinning) And she has little idea that he will also end up figuring in the further history of the Ring.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! And hah, I'm glad you enjoyed that I snuck that in there :D. I thought it fitting that these two, who each had a hand in bringing forth the two heroes of the main trilogy, should have a moment together.

So interesting to think about how Gilraen may have seen the sword and all it symbolized...."Do they see only your triumphs, or do the ponder the consequences of that day?" And I laughed out loud when Bilbo realized she was teasing him about stealing from Elrond's house. An entertaining and thought-provoking piece. Can't wait to read more of your work!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I feel like Gilraen had to have had very complicated emotions w/r/t Narsil, and I'm glad that played out here.

A delightful story especially since we know that Bilbo's actions will idrectly lead to the sword being reforged!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! And yes, that was definitely something that was one the brain when I was pending this...neither of them can know it yet, but it is quite fitting.

What a sweet story! I wish there were more of these two together. I imagine they would have lots of lovely conversation. :) It's too bad they never get to spend any time together in Rivendell!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I like to imagine that maybe in the future, when Bilbo receives lots of visitors in the Shire, Gilraen just might have been one of them :)

What a marvelous and thoughtful scene. I never imagined what a meeting between Gilraen and Bilbo would be like. And the many ways those shards could be viewed was very interesting indeed. I'd love to read more of Bilbo's 'chance' encounters in Rivendell.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Shirebound! I've read so many stories over the years of encounters between Bilbo and young Estel, and thought it was only fair that Gilraen get her due as well :). They have odd things in common that stuck out to me--both being strangers in strange lands, yet finding comfort in the haven of Rivendell.
