To Rescue a Damsel  by Lindelea 5 Review(s)

At least, we know from reading "The Tale of Years" that Pippin outlives Rose Gamgee, and then moves first to Rohan with Merry and then to Pippin.

Author Reply: Yes, it's good to be able to draw on that knowledge from "Tale of Years". I also have the advantage to be writing on a familiar timeline (to me), knowing that Pippin will not go through life a hopeless invalid, but will find unforeseen (miraculous?) healing not so many months from now.

Thanks!

The news of the impending arrival of the last of the Mayor and his wife's children, as WE know, along with Pippin, of course. Love the idea of filling a parlor with a gross of luncheon guests! Pippin is in his glory with this news, I know!

Author Reply: LOL! Such a grand announcement! (And yet, done in the privacy of the Thain's quarters, so that Sam and Rose's children can have the luxury of bursting into tears, if need be, at the news that their parents will be long delayed in returning, and not worry about how it looks to the gossipy Tooks.)

Oh what great fun to see a new chapter of this--and how wonderfully well this chapter fits with your drabble story "How to Make a Match"!

I love Pippin's high spirits at Sam's news--and of course *we* know what that is! *chortle*

Author Reply: Thank you! I had actually tried to put this information into "Match" but it was just too hard to fit it into the drabble form. So this will be a companion of sorts, where I can be as wordy as I wish. Hah.

Very nice job. I could almost *see* Farry and the little ones playing on the rug while their father worked. What a sweet picture.

Farry's thought that he would 'give up all his dreams...' is so sad. It's so hard to live under that ever present fear of losing someone you love. (Believe me, I know.)

Thank you for yet another good story.

Author Reply: You're most welcome, and thanks for the encouraging word.

This is a relatively short story, in draft form, so it shouldn't take too long in the posting (nice change... the long stories take forever!).

I'm sorry about your firsthand knowledge. It is hard. *hug* It was something of a comfort, and a wish that could not be granted, to bring somewhat miraculous healing to Pippin, in this cycle of stories, when I was sitting by helpless in RL, as someone I loved was slipping away.

The only reason I can write a story set on this point of the timeline is because I can look forward to that healing. Otherwise, it would just be too painful.

His father had made a jest about the difficulties of a united divided Kingdom

So true! What a nice detail. I look forward to more.

Author Reply: Thank you!

I wonder how Queen Victoria managed her far-flung Empire... quite the communications lag.

At the local fort where we volunteer as historical interpreters, one of the astonishing (to me) facts is that they had to think two years ahead when putting in an order for goods to be shipped from Britain to the New World. It could take a year for the order to reach the home country, and another year for the goods to arrive. Whew.
