Sitting by a Wall in the Sun  by shirebound 11 Review(s)

'Are there pickles?' :-)

Very nice. I hope they did get their chance to sit together and talk, 'off-page', as it were. The hobbits were in Minas Tirith for a while. Everyone needed time to rest and share what they had all been through ...

Author Reply: It's wonderful that the Professor left us all these periods of time to fill with our imaginations. I do hope that Frodo and Faramir were able to spend time together. And pickles are always nice. :)

Very nice story; and I loved Faramir's hope for pickles in Rosie's gift basket - a good touch of down-to-earth after the spiritual heights of the story.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. Those "down-to-earth" hobbity-inspired moments make me smile.

I was in need of a bedtime story, came in to see what was on the front page and lo and behold!! I think I'm too hyped up about tomorrow to really sleep truthfully. I'm in Toronto crossing off one of my Bucket List items : cheering on Team Canada at The World Jr Hockey Championships & we take on Slovakia in one of the Semis tomorrow/later today at the Air Canada Centre. I was a bit worried about my seat, as I'm in the 300 level, meaning up in the rafters just about, but I'm also w/the real fans too. Could not have asked for better sightlines and I'm literally over top of the one goal net. Which gave me a perfect view of one of the prettiest goals I've ever seen last night when we beat Denmark in the Quarter Finals.

Okay then...This is such a lovely little story of both hope and wishes being granted. I can easily imagine how fast Aragorn must have moved when he saw Frodo on that bench and then hearing Faramir talking out loud to boot? No wonder he jumped on Faramir the way he did and poor Faramir then wondering if all was well w/his King...Must have been a very confusing few minutes for the both of them. :o)

I love this conversation between the two of them. How Aragorn truly believes Frodo has found Peace and healing and how Faramir gives that back to Aragorn when he thought he was being foolish over seeing Frodo. Just so very lovely and giving and perfect for the Season.

Then to end it w/a Yule Package from Sam and Rose and Faramir hoping for pickles? If they are anything like my Mom's, I can't say I blame him. :oD. Love, love, love this!! Truly the perfect way to end this.

And on that note, I think I'm ready to try and snatch some sleep. Only I am truly terrified over is my voice got really raspy last night and even though I haven't done much talking today due to Toronto getting nailed w/winter snow and me staying in, I was a bit hoarse after talking to the Parents tonight, so fingers crossed I don't lose it tomorrow!!

Thanks for the lovely story, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all the Best in 2015!! ((((HUGS))))

Author Reply: Hi, Tigger! *waves* I'm so happy you enjoyed this. My father used to make pickles in big crocks, and I still remember how delicious they were.

Happy New Year to you, my friend! *hugs hugs*

What a sweet story! I have wished that a scene such as Faramir's quote described was part of the Red Book. I hope they had that moment even if Frodo did not write of it. I love that he was here for them and I hope with them that he comes back = and visits the Shire too occasionally. :)

Hope you had a great Christmas and have a merry Yule!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Perhaps in the West he and Bilbo are co-writing the Green Book, and fanfic writers get a glimpse of the pages now and then. :)

Thank you for your sweet comments. I wish you a very happy and peaceful New Year.

Ah, that familiar ache, missing someone who has gone beyond.

I had it just a few days ago, as we were driving around on some last-minute Christmas errands. The feeling that our beloved Giant Schnauzer was in her accustomed place in the back seat, sitting, resting her head on the back window shelf, gazing at the retreating landscape behind us. I had the feeling that all I had to do was to turn my head, to be able to catch a glimpse of her.

The new Giant simply lies on the back seat and sleeps as we drive along. She wasn't even in the car that day, so it wasn't even her soft breathing that triggered the memory.

Lovely thought, that somehow Frodo's old friend saw him as he was in the Far West, healed and well.

Author Reply: What a sweet experience for you. When our first pup passed away many years ago, mom and I were both positive we heard her nails click-clicking on the tile floor for weeks afterwards.

I'm very happy you enjoyed this little tale. It's very important to me to imagine Frodo healed and well.

Hello Shirebound,

What a beautiful glimpse of our favourite King & Steward, and how lovely that Aragorn was able to see Frodo and know that he had found healing.

Yule would not be Yule without goodies from the Shire, and certainly not without Rosie's pickles!

A very merry Yule to you, my friend.

Author Reply: Hi, BB! *bounces* Thank you for your kind words. Merry Yule to you, and happy hobbit holidays this and every year. *hugs*

You are missed, Frodo, and you live always in the hearts of all who called you friend.

That was beautiful, shirebound! Thank you very much.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Author Reply: Thank you!

Merry Christmas, my friend, and may the New Year bring you joy.

I strongly suspect that Frodo did visit for at least a moment, and knew that both Faramir and Aragorn were happy to sense his presence. Beautiful.

Author Reply: Thank you. Imagining this makes me happy.

What a sweet vision they had of Frodo. I'm sure he was fully aware of what they were doing and discussing.

That last bit with the Yule box was so hobbity and perfect. The Lords of Gondor need their hobbits to keep things in perspective.

A Merry Yule to you, Shirebound.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I hope we all enjoy a joyous Yule and a healthy, happy New Year.

Rose Gamgee's kitchen is as revered as any place in Middle-earth, and the Lords of Gondor are lucky enough to know it. :)
