Return to Rivendell  by Linda Hoyland 6 Review(s)

Ah, I'm with Faramir.

"You can touch them if you wish. I know you will be careful."
I know just how he felt -- I felt much the same way when an exhibition came through our local library with original pages from the Gutenberg Bible. Of course, they were under glass, untouchable. But just to see them. Whew.

"a feast of stories" -- lovely turn of phrase, and so true.

What an amazing treat visiting that library would be! Cool little story!

This is lovely. I have often wondered, if when the royal couple did go north to stay in Annuminas for periods of time, they ever visited Rivendell. After all, her brothers and Celeborn still lived there, and others of the household who did not sail with her Father and Galadriel. I suspect, though, that it might have been a bit hard for both of them. It would stir memories of those they did not expect to see again, before the breaking of the world at least.
I have long thought that Faramir and Elrond ought to have spent some time together after the war. Yes, there would have time when Elrond came for Arwen's wedding. I believe it would also have been good if Faramir could have also visited Elrond in HIS home! At least here, he can enjoy much of the famous library. I am sure that he will spend time getting acquainted with Celeborn and the brothers, as well.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I'm delighted that you are enjoying this and it is something you have wondered about. I hope that Faramir and Elrond did find time to talk.

I can tell that this will join some of my favorites of your stories. As a retired librarian, I love Aragorn's plan to establish public libraries. Like Faramir, I would love to stand in Master Elrond's library. Thank you so much.

What a joyous and satisfying visit for both of these good friends. How we would love to visit that library ourselves!

I am thinking of creating public libraries in Minas Tirith and Annúminas to give more of my folk a chance to enjoy books.

A wonderful idea. And I always love imagining what rebuilt Annúminas will be like.
