The Middle of Middle-earth  by shirebound 9 Review(s)

That's a fun hobby -- finding the middle of places, whether big or small. Definitely seems like something hobbits would do. And, talk of the Entwives! If only they knew ... :-P

Aaannd ... that's it, I think. I'm done with them all! I have had a blast reading your work, there is so much joy and tenderness to be found therein. Thanks so much for all the work you've put into these! :-)

Author Reply: I've truly appreciated reading all of your comments. More little stories will be coming as the Muse inspires me. Thank you for reading and enjoying!

Leave it to Pippin to figure out how to be in the middle... of everything!

As the Elf-lord’s gaze left the scorched lands and returned to the green Shire, Merry saw the pain and loss fade from his eyes. Noticing this, he wondered – not for the first time – how many of Pip’s seemingly impulsive outbursts were actually deliberate.

I'm so charmed that Pippin answers this question (for the reader's sake, at least) before this story is over.

Wonderful!

Author Reply: Thank you! I love how you note how Pippin is the center of everything. *happy*

Love Pippin! Sweet little gap-filler here. Certainly could have happened this way. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thank you. I'll never tire of hobbits and sweetness!

Wonderful! Pippin is indeed the Master of Distraction!

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed it! Dear Pippin. I just love imagining wee scenes like this.

I like this story very much. It's special the intervention of Pippin. Thanks a lot for to write this.

That's our Pippin!! Always there to offer both distraction from sad and hurtful memories and reminders about the important things. Such as the location of one of The Shire's very best Inns. :o)

This just so sweet and charming. We don't really see many interactions between Elrond and our two favourite Mischief Makers and I think that's a shame. This is so lovely and also believable becuae they're doing something Elrond adores : acquiring new knowledge about a place he's not that familiar w/. Add in Pippin being...Well...Pippin and this is just delightful. Thanks for this lovely little piece.

How are things out your way? W/all the Fires in the West this Summer, I've wondering and worried, so am doubly glad to see this tonight. :o) Take Care out there!!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Tigger. It's always a joy to hear from you. You're right, there are many times in the Professor's tale where Pippin reminds those around him of the Important Things. He's very special, and it's a delight to imagine Elrond learning something from the hobbits.

So far this year, my area of southern California hasn't been endangered by fires, although "fire season" has yet to arrive -- October is an especially scary time here. It's nice to know you're thinking about us, and sending love. *many hugs*

This is a charming and heartwarming, yet beautifully wistful vignette. I love the idea of these two youngest hobbits conferring with Elrond on the geography of the Shire, just as I love the hint that this is a common practice of the Lord of Imladris: to add to his map from the recollections of his guests. Both Pippin and Merry are delightfully in-character, and you capture Elrond's nature beautifully. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for such a lovely review. I also like to imagine Elrond keeping his map up-to-date, especially for reference by the many generations of his brother's descendants. And I greatly enjoy imagining him helped -- and distracted -- by hobbits.

Oh, but Peregrin Took is the master of distraction from pain and grief. The Wise Fool indeed!

Author Reply: Indeed so. I love how he was portrayed in both the books and films.
