| For some reason, some parts of this story brought tears to my eyes. Maybe because of the victory so hard-won, or maybe because of the new age that now begins for all of them, certainly because of the way you write that touches a cord deep down within me. Anyway, it was beautiful to see all kings and queens and high-born ladies and Elves thru the innocent eyes of a child. I had fun trying to guess the unnamed guests based on "Osbehrt's descriptions" of them: Arwen, Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Gandalf, the hobbits, even Legolas and Gimli. Most beautiful of all is the way Aragorn honors and thanks those who helped him during his journey with Gollum. I really enjoy this series, not least because it is written thru the eyes of various people that he interacted with during his long and arduous journey. Author Reply: It's wonderful to know you found the chapter moving, and that you enjoyed picking out so many familiar characters. Poor Pippin: he was back with the knights of Gondor, and Osbehrt was hauled away before they drew into view. It's so affirming to know that you appreciate these pieces and the concept behind them. I can see this happening in just such a way, and I have also written the great Lord Elessar sitting upon the pavement in the hall of Meduseld, his knees drawn up, laughing at a tale just told to him. Wonderful! Thank you for this one! Author Reply: I suppose the Golden Hall is just such a joyous place, and Éomer just such a joyous King! I like to think his reign was filled with laughter. After all, if he could laugh at ruin on the Pelennor, surely he can laugh at anything. | |

| Aww.. Osbehrt over enthusiastic proclamation of his remembrance of the "hay man" ans the subsequent whisking away by his mom was totally entertaining. The poor father was so afraid and Aragorn was so horrified at this because he simply thought everyone would have believed the boy. The great Elessar Telcontar accused of chicken snatching! Hilarious. Although I was puzzled my Arwen's confusion at that point in the story. Was she confused because she hadn't heard that part of the story before ( I will have to go back and check what exactly Aragorn told her) or just general confusion of language. Its amazing that the whole story can be told and remembered without Gollum being mentioned. I am sure that Aragorn is thankful for that to be sure. I loved how Arwen was also a part of gift giving. She knew what this family did for Aragorn on that desperate journey, not just physically but also psychologically, and showing her personal gratitude too. A lovely piece of work all around. Author Reply: I'm glad there were some funny bits: always great to know when they come across! Arwen's confusion was due chiefly to Eomer's suppressed laughing fit. She had been following the story well enough up 'til that point, but she couldn't understand Annis's accusation, and she didn't understand what on earth could be THAT funny. Fear not: they'll fill her in later. ;-) I found that remarkable, too: how easy it was to leave Gollum out of the entire tale. It is wonderful that you found Arwen's gesture of thanks so fitting. Indeed: the water was the least part of the gift these little ones and their brave mother gave to Aragorn. | |
