Elf Academy 4 - The Unfinished Tales  by Fiondil 23 Review(s)
KathyGReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 7/26/2018
I have a request to make of the beta-readers who finished Elf Academy 3 and posted part of Elf Academy 4. If Fiondil were still alive, I would make this request of him, but since he's not, and since I don't know your email addresses, I must do it here. Dreamflower and I are co-writing a story which is now being posted here on Stories of Arda, as well as on a few other Web sites. Here is the link to the story:

An Unexpected Adventure

Glorfindel plays a role in our story, and since very little of his back history was given by Tolkien, I should like to draw on the additional back history that Fiondil gave him. Have Dreamflower and I your permission to do so?

I hope that one day, you'll be able to resume working on Elf Academy 4!

What a start to a story! I've been wondering what the EA4 would have been like, and this is nowhere close to what I expected. Templars, exploding Edhellond, everyone fleeing but the mortals being still safe... I have no idea where this story is going, but it will be fun to find out! Thank you for publishing this!

Author Reply: There is a great deal going on in the story right now. Things will become clearer eventually, but not yet!

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Firstly I want to thank you all for leaving your reviews. Ellie, Mari and I are overwhelmed and not a little bit tearful over the response. I know if Arthur was seeing all of this he would be amazed. He thought of himself as just the man on the sidelines writing fanfiction. I don't believe he realised fully what an impact he made on all of our lives. He made such an impact on the Tolkien fanfiction community that none of us are ever likely to forget him. He is greatly missed and that is without a doubt.

There are quite a few chapters to post. We decided that it was time to start posting them since it's been a year since he passed on. We felt that his last WIP of Elf Academy 4 was a most fitting memorial to a most remarkable and talented man. At the moment we haven't really discussed finishing the story, but that is not out of the question. The main issue is, obviously, that we need to figure out generally where Arthur was going with the story. I have written a further half a chapter thereby finishing what had been the last chapter Arthur had written. It seemed a shame to leave it halfway through.

Over the next few weeks I will try to figure out where Arthur was intending to take the story, obviously his vision is not mine, but if we can safely bring the story to a close properly without there being too much of a distinction between writing styles, then rest assured we will try. For now, these are Arthur Boccacio's Unfinished Tales. After all, if the great man Tolkien could have Unfinished Tales, I am damn sure Arthur can!

I will answer reviews, not as faithfully as Arthur, but perhaps a general review aimed at all of his readers rather than a specific personal answer. Believe me, if Arthur could answer his reviews, no one would be more delighted than me!

Blessed be, to all of you
Shem xxxxx

I am SOO glad to see the beginning of Elf Academy 4! I hope, with all my heart, that we'll get to see this story's end as well. Did Fiondil create enough of it that you'll be able to write this story to its end?

Author Reply: The problem with writing this story to its end - completing it for Fiondil - is that HE did not know where the story was going. He left notes and we discussed things often, but he himself often complained of having no clear idea of where things were headed.

I love the detail work. Here I was with a global GPS trying to figure out the longitude/latitude correlations. I'm addicted once again!

Author Reply: I remember Fiondil making sure he checked the latitude and longitude himself, knowing that readers would look it up as well.

Welcome back!

Woa, this story starts with a bang. Within minutes all the elves have build up over the years gets wiped out. Now they are on the run with toddlers and pregnant women in tow. No wonder Glorfindel has flashes of Gondolin in mind. I also googled the coordinates and the location doesn't tell me anything. I guess I will join Kaylee at the cliff house and wait for this story to unfold.

Author Reply: The Cliff House does have WiFi, so those who gather there should be able to receive regular chapter updates :-)

Poor Glorfindel really is dealing with a lot right now...

Now what? Who blew up Edhellond, and why?

On tinterhooks!

Author Reply: That remains to be seen...

Acre.

Oh Holy ... That place was Hell on Earth but with so much history! Some familiar names as well. Seems Fiondil-sama was digging deep to bring the Cymri brothers into the thick of things! And I admit to a "Kingdom of Heaven" flashback replete with Orlando while reading this.

As I am currently re-reading EA3 (forgot most of it, sadly) I am finding the sudden shift to three years later a bit odd. So much must have happened during those three years and I'm dying to know what! Elections, and businesses started, and Prince Legolas as a policeman etc etc. But suddenly we're not only 3 years down the line but running for the hills!

It's nice to see that the Bobbsey Twins (Derek and Alex) are going along for this excursion. But I wonder, do the Powers understand that these two and Glorfindel (and I should add Finrod) are Chaos Personified? Or perhaps better stated: what can go wrong will go wrong spectacularly especially with these 4 in the mix! *grins*

I'll be joining Kaylee in the Cliff House when I can (I have to read online as the story is posted in a way that I can't download it to my Calibre and that WILL slow me down).

My best love and thanks to (as Kaylee calls them) The Beta Amigas for their incredible hard work and a bow of respect for their love of our beloved friend, atar and brother, Fiondil.

Author Reply: If I remember correctly, he said he had some "Kingdom of Heaven" stuff in the back of his mind when he wrote the Templar part.

All I can say is that all will be explained soon enough, so hang in there!

Enjoy the Cliff House!

Thanks for the love and thanks :-)

Well, that's an interesting location that they're all heading for. And the tie-in with the Templars. Once again my dear friend has caught my imagination and I'm off on another journey with him. Thank you so much for doing this, it's a thrill to be back in his world once more.

Author Reply: Journey with Fiondil always stir the imagination. Buckle up, bring snacks, and enjoy the ride!
