Smoke & Mirrors  by Lialathuveril 10 Review(s)

Well, all is explained now -- and it turns out that I wasn't all that far off the mark originally. I suspected that she had been in love with a young man -- one of her father's knights, perhaps -- who'd been killed on the Field of Pelennor or perhaps at the Black Gate. It turns out that Lothiriel DID lose a young man whom she had loved -- but although he was a man of Gondor, he was not one of her father's men (more the reverse) and he died in a different time and place than I had imagined. It's lovely to see that she and Eomer have managed to clear up all their misunderstandings and admitted that they've fallen in love with each other in spite of themselves!

Author Reply: Yes, you were pretty near the mark, weren't you! When I first wrote the wedding night scene, I actually included a few more hints, but all my test readers guessed at the identity of the man she was in love with, so I took them out again to muddy the waters ;-D

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the ride!

Enjoyed this chapter very much, it's so romantic and reads like a wedding night. Sort of a second wedding night, I think.

Author Reply: Yes, exactly! Only this time round much nicer, I hope.

At last they have had their much needed talk, but it almost went horribly wrong. That was a surprise that she was in love with Boromir! I like the idea Lothiriel has visions like Faramir.

Author Reply: I just couldn't resist having one last misunderstanding ;-) And I thought since Imrahil has very distant Elven ancestors too, something like Faramir's gift might be running in his family too.

Ah, most satisfactory! Communication is, after all, most often THE key to full appreciation of one another. Am glad to see this at last!

Author Reply: It is, isn't it! Hopefully they've learnt that lesson now!

I have been following along at home since the first chapter and enjoying it all the way through. Thanks for writing it and I look forward to whatever you post next.

Author Reply: Thanks! There's still an epilogue to come, but after that I'm not sure what's next. Something will pop into my head, no doubt ;-)

Aha! I remember thinking, back at the beginning almost, that she had been in love with Boromir - or perhaps just hero-worshipped him; I am pleased to think he might have seen her in that light too.

But how good to see this pair finally talking to each other, listening to each other, and finally understanding each other - even with poor Lothiriel's slight detour on the understanding thing!

I am really hoping that it really is still in progress and we have another chapter to go (or more - I wouldn't object!) because it is always sad to come to the end of such a good story.

Author Reply: Yes, it started probably very much as hero-worship on Lothiriel's part - as she has come to realise herself. What would have come of it, who knows?

And sorry about that final misunderstanding, I just couldn't resist (but then you know me!).

As for being still in progress, there will be an epilogue set some time later to tie up the last few loose ends, but that's it. In a way I'm also sad to let them go, but then the deserve to enjoy their happy ending now.

Oh, they negotiated the smoke and mirrors at last!

Thank you, I have SO enjoyed these stories! I really liked your version of Eomer and Lothirial was one fiesty lady!

Didn't guess that the long lost love would be Boromir!

Thank you for including Aragorn, if only in a bit part!

A lovely ending, but sad it's finished.

WRITE MORE!

Author Reply: Yes, they finally smashed through the smoke and mirrors ;-D

I'm pleased to hear you liked this version of Eomer and Lothiriel and I will definitely write more, though I've also got a few original writing projects in the works that I want to finish first.

As for this story, there is an epilogue to come.

Wonderful! I'm really enjoying this. I liked that you had Boromir be the missing man in her life as cousins often married in olden days. :)

Author Reply: Thanks! It was an idea I had a long time ago. I could quite easily see a young Lothiriel hero-worshipping Boromir and then perhaps he suddenly sees her as a woman and falls in love with her.
