and a whole Shireful of hobbits who will need you. After all his adventures I would imagine this still seems daunting but uniquely suited to his temperament and talents. I enjoyed this Kathy.

Author Reply: I'm glad you did. Thanks! I reckon that Sam did find the prospect daunting, but as you said, it was definitely suited to his temperament and talents. He had always had a servant's heart, and so what he did was to make the switch from meeting the needs of one hobbit (Frodo) as his servant to meeting the needs of the whole Shire, as mayor.
