An Alphabet Book for the King's Children  by Larner 7 Review(s)
Agape4GondorReviewed Chapter: 9 on 1/8/2017
Waxing on the serious side - the mention of Isildur gave me pause. Fiondil had written a great little tale of Isildur's courage in the taking of a seedling of the White Tree of Numenor.

Isildur's tale of courage was lost in the telling of Isilsur's shame. Reminds me, too, of Boromir's 'shame' and yet, his failing leant Frodo the strength to sever himself from the Fellowship AND Boromir's heroic defense of Merry and Pippin.

I try to remind myself that I do fail at times, but I do succeed.

Bless you, Larner, you have succeeded in teaching the children of the king important lessons in this 'child's' alphabet book.

Thank you.

Author Reply: I well remember Fiondil's tale of the saving of the seedling, and it has inspired my own further fics regarding that one triumph. We cannot forget what both Isilsur and Boromir achieved in light of one failing by each of them. I love your realization that all of us fail at times, and deserve the forgiveness and acceptance for what we have and do do rightly. Thank you, and I call down blessings on you, too, for reminding us all of that truth!

And the inhabitants of that land shall be inspired by its presence

And that they were thanks to Isildur!

Author Reply: Indeed, Andrea. Isildur deserves the respect he earned, and not to be judged solely by being taken by the Ring as happened. Thanks!

Intelectually inspiring. Increases information in incredible increments.
You and Fiondil, (God rest him), keep making me want to learn more first and second age history.

Author Reply: Oh, how we miss Fiondil's physical presence and his additions to our knowledge of Arda!

I have long suspected that Isildur, as happened with Frodo, did not so much as take the Ring as It took him at that crucial moment. He loved his people so, I cannot imagine that he would purposely betray the two realms as he did by purposely choosing to take the the Ring.

Love this one too! The little fleshing out of scenes we all know.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Gapfillers are my specialty, after all. Thanks so, Antane!

Ah, and Isildur was inspired by Irmo, or perhaps Iluvatar, was he? Yes indeed! A perilous venture, but the correct action to take, and I count Isildur twice blessed despite his later follies. He saved so many...not just Nimloth's seed, but his people's hope and future. I think without the hope of the White Tree's child, Amandil, Elendil, and Anarion too might have given up.

Author Reply: I so agree, Kaylee. Thanks so!

What a beautiful story you've woven here.

Author Reply: Thank you so, Shirebound. Isildur deserves more respect than he often gets.
