Time takes too many too soon with tactless tenacity. The tally is terrible but we thank the Powers for the texture they added to our lives.

I loved your last line. We will remember them.

Author Reply: How well you have summed it up. Thanks so, Liz.

Oops! Posted to the wrong letter, SORRY.

Author Reply: I'd realized it, but didn't want to say...

(Grinning wickedly!)

Saddened seafarers Sally forth on saltwater seas and scream as the sundering (t)sunami scours their Star Isle from sight. Succouring Middle Earth now their only safety and shelter..

I learned a lot from this page. Thanks Larner. One of these days I will make it through the Silmarilion.

Author Reply: Thank you so, although I believe some of this is contained in the Appendices. Heh! Reading the Silmarillion is a different enterprise from reading either Hobbit or LOTR, but worthwhile itself. Although you could also go through the Encyclopedia of Arda, where I often graze when I don't feel like skimming through the Sil.

We still grieve his absence, but rejoice for the time we were given with him.

That is the right way to deal with the loss. Time does not heal all wounds, but remembering the good times helps a lot.

Author Reply: I know. Thanks so very much!

Such a sense of melancholy here. And you're definitely right -- time heals, but most often not completely. I suppose the only thing we can do, if they're not completely gone, is learn how to learn from them... :-)

Author Reply: Thank you--good to know I set the perfect tone for what I wanted to convey.

Thanks so very much, PSW!

O, and is it dear Merry writing this one? Or did Merry and Pippin write it together? But I do hope Time healed all wounds for their beloved Frodo! It would seem that it did, in the West! And I hope Ithilien truly flourishes.

Author Reply: I couldn't say which would have been behind this--as you note, it could have been a joint effort.

I've always felt that the final wounds of having abandoned his friends without notice would have been healed for Frodo at Sam's coming. And I am certain that with Faramir and Legolas as its joint lords along with Aragorn, Ithilien would indeed have flourished with Sauron's influence finally gone for good!

I'm trying to place the narrator -- Merry or Pippin? But in any event, the Great Tale will still be told, and the heroes, large and small, remembered and reverenced.

Author Reply: I couldn't make up my own mind. Perhaps they devised this together!

Thank you so much for your patient and steady reading, Shirebound!
