An Alphabet Book for the King's Children  by Larner 5 Review(s)

Ha! This is probably my favorite of them all, and made me laugh out loud. Amen, Samwise! I really wonder why anyone would want to be a Dark Lord too (honestly, either in a Middle Earth sense or in a more prosaic, our world sense). Too much work and too many people wanting to see you defeated is definitely right... And anyway, I much enjoy my 'blessed obscurity' (as a friend once put it)....

Author Reply: Ain't blessed obscurity grand? Heh! Thanks so!

I wish I understood as why anyone wants to be a Dark Lord.

That was great! Thank you, Sam and thank you, Larner!

Author Reply: Sam and I both offer you thanks, and I think he may also be offering you some holly and mistletoe!

I love this - "Why didn’t Melkor give hisself a good, well respected job, like Lord of Restful Nights or the like?" Bless Sam, indeed. :) Liked the letter 'T' too.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, Sam's wisdom cuts right down to the core of the problem. Heh! And am so glad you liked T as well. Thanks so much!

Why didn’t Melkor give hisself a good, well respected job?

What a great question, Sam! Oh, this is delightful. One of my favoritest chapters of all!

Author Reply: After some of the angst in preceding chapters, we needed Sam's POV in this one, I felt. Thank you so much!

"Bless Sam!" is right! I couldn't have put it better myself! What a wonderfully insightful Hobbit Sam is, and so right - Dark Lords and all do seem to favour wastelands, don't they. It's as if they're personally insulted by the very idea of things that are green and growing! I wonder why that might be...Hmm...*ponders*

Author Reply: I don't know why they appear to prefer sterility to growth, but perhaps it's because they know they can't continue to control growing things forever. Thanks for letting me know this one made you smile.
