An Unexpected Adventure [IN HIATUS]  by KathyG 5 Review(s)

You did a good job of blending the book and your story. Everyone is having a bit of a culture clash right now. I like Legolas's point that the kids see it as an adventure right now and don't realize how much danger they'll likely encounter.
Thanks,
atealgirl

Author Reply: "Culture clash" is right! The children are talking and singing about things that the Middle-earth people know nothing about.

It's true that the children see the Quest as an adventure, and don't yet realize the dangers they'll eventually encounter. It'll become clear to them later on, though! K.G.

The measurements bring back memories of the many, many light orange Pee-Chee folders I had as a schoolkid. On the inside flap they had all those measurements. Furlongs, rods, leagues! Now finally after all these years I have seen a measurement in rods! I am happy!

Author Reply: LOL! It's been that long, huh? Well, measurements are usually made in inches, feet, miles, etc.--or in the metric system, meters, millimeters, kilometers, etc. Leagues, rods, and furlongs are pretty rare. K.G.

Author Reply: Well, Tolkien definitely uses leagues, so I have always followed along with that and decided to go whole hog and throw in rods and furlongs as well. It helps me (and hopefully the reader) to stay grounded in Tolkien's world. DF

Yes, thought is well taken to make certain that Joey and Kevin both don't flag too early. And love the discussion of proper names for the newly rearranged meals.

Author Reply: Yeah, really! You may remember that in one of Dreamflower's other LOTR stories, the hobbits had a rather lively discussion about what to call their meals. =)

And I agree--Kevin and Joey both need to take care that they don't tire out too early in a marchM

A very interesting first day on the trail for all of them!

Author Reply: Isn't it, though? =)

"Westward Ho The Wagons" - finally, a Disney movie I *haven't* seen! Heh! :) I need to look that up - I wonder if Netflix has got it?

Aww, Joey's so adorable. I think it'll take a while for the McCloud kids to build up their strength enough to keep up, especially little Joey, but perhaps not as long as it might have if they didn't have a Wizard along. :) I loved the singing, and that they're allowed to have their "walking songs" for now even though they'll have to keep quiet later on.

I'm so glad Aragorn approves of Kevin! He'll be a fast learner, I'm sure.

This story is so exciting! *big grin*

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it. =)
