The Thrum of Tookish Bowstrings, Part 1  by Lindelea 4 Review(s)

Oh dear, poor Farry! Always too serious for his age, too precoscious, and too understanding. And now he hears this. He's going to fret for sure.

Author Reply: Yes, he has always had understanding beyond his years, from his earliest appearances in these stories. I don't know if it's because he's his father's son, or Merry's influence, or if it's because he's had to grow up quickly, but that quick wit is always there when I think of him.

Lovely to hear from you! (hugs) Hope you are staying well.

Lindelea!

I'm on the edge of my seat to find out what will happen with Pippin's health. Poor little Farry to find out such a thing accidentally. Nicely wrought story so far!

MM.

Author Reply: Thank you!

It is certainly a case of "little pitchers have big ears". While this story touches upon Pippin's health journey (it is part of what drives the plot), it also has several time leaps that will sort of fast-forward through that thread in the tapestry. In any event, that way there is some resolution to that in this story (where other stories with a shorter timeline leave it hanging). (I hope I'm making sense; had rather too much caffeine today.)

I appreciate your stopping to leave an encouraging word!

A terrible way for the child to learn that his father knows he may not last too much longer.

Author Reply: Indeed. Overhearing his Brandybuck cousins talking soberly among themselves about his father's health might be one thing, but hearing it directly from Pippin's own mouth? Quite another.

Thanks! Appreciate your taking time to leave a good word. Looking forward to seeing you!

This is an interesting start to one of your stories. I have, as is true for many here, followed them ever since I found SoA fifteen years or so ago. I need to figure out which of your stories has Pippin ill due to his (mis)adventures. I do hope you'll carry this forward and thank you for your hard work on it so far.

Author Reply: Thankfully, this one is written in draft form all the way to the end, meaning that all it needs is editing, so it has a much lower chance of ending up hanging as a WIP. (Though I am hoping to get to those, too...)

If it's any help, the early chapters of this story coincide with material in Flames / FireStorm / Striking Sparks and fall toward the end of StarFire, in that difficult time before the finding of the treasure-hoard of the Thain and the arrival of showers of blessing from the Southlands. His troubles all started when Pippin had a bad bout of pneumonia in Jewels, which affected his health throughout his time as Steward of Buckland and his early years as Thain (and all the stories set during that time), all the way to the events in At the End of His Rope and A Healer's Tale.

The later chapters in this story are set later on the timeline, after Pippin's healing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a word of encouragement!
