Does he know what he's doing, sending that particular Hobbit child off to get cake? And that these two would get along so well from the start is only to be expected, I suppose.

Author Reply: I always felt, from the way Tolkien wrote, that Gandalf had a special fondness for and relationship with the Tooks. I can well imagine that he'd keep his eye on them.

"peered deeply into the child's eyes" and, no doubt into his soul. I always thought that Gandalf was as hard on Pippin all of the time as he was because he could see what Pip was capable of, and had a special spot for him. Delightful!

Author Reply: I agree with you. Gandalf truly wanted Pippin and Merry on the Quest, and he no doubt 'saw' great potential in both of them.

Yes, best remember that face!

Sounds like Pip has another heart captive :)

Author Reply: I just love the idea of wee!hobbits. So tiny and yet so irresistible!

Oh, I love this! That would have been an interesting way for Gandalf and Pippin to meet. Hmmm, wonder how Dwarves make such magical toys? :) God bless,
Galadriel
