Didn't Merry write a book?

Author Reply: He did! According to the Professor, Merry wrote several books, including one called 'Herblore of the Shire'.

Yes. The Dunedain deserve a line or two at the very least ...

This was a very nice little scene. Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Our dear Rangers deserve so much appreciation! :)

Merry is just wonderful! Trust him to ask those questions... And then thanking Thalguron for protecting the Shire like that...

And the ending was perfect as well. At last our Dúnedain get a bit of a reward for their labours.

Thank you, shirebound, for writing such a touching little story and sharing it with us.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I always thought there should be more "thank you's" for our patient, wonderful Rangers.

Oh my. That was brilliant! So Merry-like, I would have listened to Gandalf and Aragorn for hours.

"Aragorn," said Gandalf softly, "Thank you for keeping the Shire safe."

May the Shire always be safe!

I once said I feel home at my friends smials, I feel very comfortable especially at your smile, Shirebound. Alwas bound to the Shire, to Middle Earth and to our beloved hobbits.

Thank you, my friend! If you would be here I would hug you to pieces.

Author Reply: What fun, Julchen! I'm so glad you're enjoying these stories.

I'm content to be "bound to the Shire", and to all my friends, for as long as hobbits live in our hearts. I do hope we can meet someday, and hug in person.

This is wonderful! I adore gap-fillers that let the hobbits in on some of the deeper workings of the story they're in, and it's lovely to see Aragorn and Gandalf have such a meaningful conversation with Merry. He's such a thoughtful hobbit, I love the obvious respect the Big Folk have for him now, near the end of the story, and that he is given much longer answers than he would ever have got earlier on!

Author Reply: I love how you say this! "...let the hobbits in on some of the deeper workings of the story they're in..." And oh, how right you are -- the hobbits never got such long, detailed answers earlier on -- they had to fight for every bit of information they got, especially from Gandalf!

Thank you so much.

Oh!

"I just wanted to say... thank you, sir. Thank you for keeping the Shire safe."

And just as touching:
"Aragorn," said Gandalf softly, "Thank you for keeping the Shire safe."

*wipes tears and hugs Merry, Strider, Gandalf and Dunedain tight, tight*.

I barely have words for this! Amazing. And it is an excellent gapfiller. Trust Merry to want to know why the Shire was guareded though. :)

Author Reply: Thanks, Anso! I remember how I happy I felt, when writing this, that someone was finally thanking the Rangers for what they did. I loved having Merry do it.

This was wonderful. Excellent story, and so like Merry! May the Shire always be guarded, so that it may find peace. =)

Author Reply: Thank you, Anni! And oh yes, I completely agree. May our beloved Shire always know peace.

:)

It's wonderful what can be found if you are new to this site and you start with the stories at the end of the list. This is a lovely story. So like Merry to say thank you and to be curious enough to aks about the protection of the Shire in the first place. I enjoyed this very much.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it. There just were too few "thank you's" said, and I enjoy giving the Rangers their due.
