Baggins!  by Grey Wonderer 112 Review(s)
Jeodo BrandybuckReviewed Chapter: 3 on 9/28/2004
Hee hee hee hee hee... That little scoundrel. That older scoundrel. Bilbo and Pippin are two of a kind (or is that Took of a kind?) and you did a wonderful job with them! I thoroughly enjoyed this little snippet, between Merry quickly changing sides when it comes to being accepted as an adult, and Pippin explaining to his audience how the rules are supposed to work. What fun!!

Author Reply: Why thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed this one. I think that there's more than enough Took in Bilbo to allow him to handle a ten-year-old Pippin. I think your 'Took of a kind' expression is the right one in this case. Thanks for the review!

I'm glad Pippin didn't win - he is a manipulative young hobbit. I think he might have met his match in Bilbo, who doesn't play by the same rules. Shame he didn't know Bilbo for longer - although I don't know if his parents would agree with that!

Author Reply: Any time spent with Bilbo Baggins is bound to be interesting. Thanks for the review.

I see a look of pride on the face of my dear friend, Bilbo for here stands the one that he has loved best among all others.

Oh -- beautiful. Wonderful. I can't wait to see what else you have up your talented sleeve . . . lots more, I hope! Happy typing!

Author Reply: I plan more and I hope you'll stick around. Thank you again for reviewing.

Oh, this is GREAT! I love it!

I love Frodo-centric fic. And I really, really love the way you write. Bilbo and Frodo just come right off the page. I feel like I'm right there in the Shire . . . I'll be waiting for more! Thanks!

Author Reply: And thank you for the lovely review.

*sigh*

You paint such a wonderful picture of Frodo, and in passing, Bilbo, and while you're doing that you are sneakily acquainting the reader a bit better with the old wizard.

Thanks!

Author Reply: Thank you. This is one of my shortest fictions and it sort of wrote itself.

If you ever want me to go over a piece for grammar nit-picks, send me an email. Your writing is so wonderful, that's about all I'd nit-pick!

evesdropping like a nosey old gammer, grinning like he'd won a prize at fair for bringing the best calf to market, "Don't know his hat from a hay wagon"

I just love your word pictures.

Bilbo! You make me laugh! And now I see you're doing something like what Gandalf did with the trolls... I can just see you sitting in the Ivy Bush, listening to speculation about the tippler.

Yes, life with Bilbo will be quite the adventure.

Author Reply: I always meant to get a Beta, but I am so impatient about posting. LOl I do appreciate the offer and once I grow some common sense I may take you up on it. I always suspected that Bilbo might have picked up a thing or two from Gandalf while on his first adventure. After all, there'd be no point in living past the age of the old Took if he don't enjoy himself now and again. Glad you liked this one.

Total randomness can be a good thing. Stand alone chapters are nice, something to crunch quickly during a stolen moment and digest slowly while busy about other things. Glad to see another GW story!

Author Reply: Thank you! I don't know what my prologues would do for reviews without you. I'm glad that you are up for randomness because that's what I'm all about!

What a fun way to deal with all the rumour-mongers. And good, probably, for Frodo to see that not everything has to be taken seriously; it is possible to get a lot of entertainment from the way that others see you. (Though that is a lot easier as an older, richer, independent hobbit of means than as an orphaned tween.)

Author Reply: So true! This might be a source of amusement for Bilbo but it might not strike Frodo in the same way. It's more important to fit in at Frodo's age. Bilbo enjoys being a character and can get away with it. Thanks for reviewing!

Goodness, I can just see Bilbo doing such a thing! So Frodo was adopted to dig up Bilbo's treasure, eh? And I think Sam could take some lessons on 'dropping his eaves' from that rascally Baggins lad.

Author Reply: Maybe that's where Sam learns what he coes know about it. After all, it's very difficult to fool a wizard! Glad you enjoyed this and thank you for the lovely review!

Ah-ha! So we found the source of all those rumors! Or some of them at least. Very sly and tricky of old Bilbo - and funny. Great job!

Author Reply: Thank you. I have always enjoyed Bilbo but haven't written as much for him as I would like to. I hope to have several stories in this group about him. Thanks for reading.
