Paths of Memory  by daw the minstrel 74 Review(s)
rikkiReviewed Chapter: 1 on 10/20/2004
These are rather neat snippets of memory. And whether you meant to or not, some of the scenes are memories from some of your earlier stories. Legolas and his blanket; Ithilian riding out to command his troops in the field. The one with Eilian and the sled on the stairs was new but it did remind me of Legolas doing the same thing with Oropher's shield with Annael and Turgon. I bet the whole household came running the first time Eilian and Thranduil tried out the sled on the stairs.

I have a feeling where this one is going but I will keep it to myself for now. If I am right, then I risk ruining the story for someone and if I am wrong, well.....

I know the school year is in full swing, but I am hoping that you have a longer story in the works.

Author Reply: I did think of some of those earlier stories too. I have to! It's hard enough to be consistent in my own world even when I do. And because I had shown Legolas with his blanket, it amused me to give one to Ithilden, the future troop commander. :-)

I don't have a longer story worked out yet. I think this weekend, I'll have to look at my list and decide what I want to do. Work is keeping me extra busy and I have to go to a conference in Boston and give two talks next week, so I don't think I'm going to get a whole lot of fun stuff done, more's the pity.

Oh, I do love the glimpses of each of the young boys. But, there seems to be a storm brewing... Can't wait to find out more!

Author Reply: Thank you, Elena Tiriel. There's a second chapter, but that's all, so this isn't terribly substantive. I need to go write something with a plot. I intended this to be fluff but then the storm did kind of creep in.

They sure grow up fast, eh, Daw? Hehe.

What a sweet story, with a rather ominous ending. This isn't a one-shot, is it? We do get to find out what everyone's upset about, right? I did a head count but I wouldn't want to speculate. I'll leave it to Karen to reveal your plot...

Author Reply: They do! One minute they're hauling mud in the house and the next they're drinking.

There's a second chapter on the way. I'm going to tell Karen what you said. :-)

Delightful! The parallel glimpses of each of the Thranduilion is fascinating. :-)

Author Reply: Glad you liked it, Karri. I was surprised myself to find that Ithilden had a blankie!
