Yule Fictions Past and Present  by Grey Wonderer 99 Review(s)

Awww! Terrific, GW! I apologize for not responding right away...this story was definitely one of those lovely holiday gems. Its so true about losing the magic at a certain age then picking a bit of it up by celebrating through a young child. I can’t imagine any of these three spending Yule away from one another. Hope your Yule was a grand one...happy holidays! Thanks for sharing. :-)

Author Reply: Funny, I was just about to take this one down now that the season is over and tonight I find two new reviews for it. Guess I will leave it up for a bit longer. I usually take these down like Christmas decorations. LOL I had a lovely holiday and thank you for asking. Hope you did too!

Pippin stood still for a whole minute? lol. I remember that feeling of Christmas suddenly seeming pretty pointless. I would even find excuses not to go visit the family. But you do get over it and find other things to enjoy about it. Loved the story of Primula challenging everyone to a chess match and how everyone would hide from her. And I'm sure Pippin enjoyed his Yule snack with his two best friends. Lovely story. And Merry Christmas.

Author Reply: So glad that you enjoyed this one. I think everyone goes through what Merry did in one way or another. Except maybe, folks like Pippin who never lose the magic. I was more of a Merry on this one. Happy Holidays and thanks for the review!

This was wonderful!!! I loved how you captured that let down feeling we get as we get older and lose some of the magic of the holidays. It always wonderful to see "Yule" through the eyes of lil ones.

Must thank Auntiemeesh for inspriring another great yule tale!

Great Job, and Happy Holidays!

I found this story extremely poignient, as I went through the same thing as Merry a few years back. I remember well what its like to suddenly find holidays don't mean the same thing to you as they did when you were a child. Thank you for this story and Happy Holidays.

Author Reply: I remember that feeling also. It takes a while to figure out how to go about enjoying your holiday after that, but if you're lucky, you come up with something. There is nothing like the magic of Christmas when you are a child. Thanks for the review and Happy Holidays to you also!

I have been lurking at SoA for almost a year now without ever leaving a review. This story however, finally broke my lurker status. This was one of the sweetest Hobbit stories I've EVER read. Holiday disenchantment is one of the most painful realizations about growing up. You've captured it perfectly with this bittersweet story. You are one of my favorite Hobbity writers!

Author Reply: Why thank you so much! I am honored to be your first review and so glad that you enjoy my version of the hobbits. A friend posted something on her LJ that gave me this idea. I appreciate this lovely review very much. It's like an early Christmas present. Have a Happy Holiday and feel free to lurk about any of my stories that strike your fancy!

I loved this! It`s good to see Pippin looking after Merry for once, and to see Merry share his thoughts with Frodo. He is growing up and wants to share Pippin`s joy in things, but hasn`t yet learned to share it through him properly.

Author Reply: Lots of folks get depressed for one reason or another during the holidays, but that point at which you become one of the older folks and a little bit of the magic slips away for you is very difficult. I thought that Merry might be somewhere between Frodo's grown-up Yule season and Pippin's young child Yule. I am so glad that you liked it. It gave Frodo a chance to play the older cousin while letting Merry be the one in need of help. Happy Holidays!
