While There's Breath...  by Lindelea 54 Review(s)

What a promising beginning. Interesting that Pippin is making the time to see this old fount of hobbit history--not something that would not have been as important in his much younger days, but now, after Frodo and the Quest, would be very important to him. He knows now how vital it is that history not be forgotten.

And I know why he has to be in Buckland by the 15th of March. Poor Merry!

It's a good thing that Pippin and Ferdi have an underlying affection--otherwise, they are so much alike they would irritate each other to death. I don't envy the other hobbit of the escort this little expedition. Which one do you suppose would win a stubborn contest?

Author Reply: Mmm. Might be a toss-up. They're both Tooks, and "Took" appears in my thesaurus under synonyms for "stubborn".

Maybe I ought to make the date (in the chapter) the 14th! But then, Pippin would undoubtedly strive to arrive a day or two early anyhow. No one would speculate about that, knowing how close he and Merry are.

Thanks for commenting!

The other stories are on hold at the moment--this one wrote itself very quickly in draft, and so I will be posting chapters at least until the Muse starts whispering new chapters of the other stories...

Oh I've always loved "Irene, Good Night"! It will be interesting to see how you work that into a story...

Yep, I think that probably was me. Runaway is actually one of my favorite stories, I think because of the tremendous growth of the characters in it. It really is a turning point for Pippin's relationship with his son and wife, really the refining of a family; and then there's all the understanding that must be forged with the hobbits of the escort, his steward, and a new honesty and committment to the rest of the hobbits of Tookland. (And it has a great Merry.) I'm glad to see you're coming back to that time.

Hey, now that was fast! I just wrote a review of the Last chapter of "All that Glisters" and requested that you write more and here it is! I like the song, "Good night Irene" and have for some time so I look forward to this partly on that count. As to any resemblance to “In the Greening of the Year”, that will only be a plus as far as I am concerned. I loved that one.
