The Road to Edoras  by Dreamflower 529 Review(s)

At last, Beri's prank! And a very clever one as well. Merry and Pippin would indeed be proud. :D I can't wait for Legolas's reaction!

Cado would do well to allow himself to grieve. Anger might make the time pass faster, but it's exhausting as well. I do hope he manages to turn himself around, but I won't hold my breath for it.

Author Reply: I thought it would certainly be a good one to pull on the Elf, since he dislikes the smell of pipe-weed smoke so much!

Clovis doesn't want to think. Anger keeps that from happening. I think he knows if he starts to think, he might discover that he is to blame for his own problems-- and that is not a fact he wishes to face. He'd rather be angry and rant and rave and blame someone else.

Thought I'd put this separate in case you want to delete it. Noticed a couple of typos:

I am first cousin once removed to Frodo. My grandmother Asphodel was sister to his mother Mirabella.

his mother Primula.

I am also first cousin twice removed to Merry, through the same grandmother-- she was sister to his grandfather Rorimac.

I am also second cousin to Merry

There were also some spacing issues.

Again, I'm so glad we finally get to see the final chapters of this story! :D *goes on to next chapter*

Author Reply: Nah, I don't delete stuff, unless it's a blank review or the poster asks me to.

Good catch on the Mirabella thing. I'll fix it right away.

Are you sure about second cousin? Because Merry is Frodo's first once removed through the same generation. Frodo and Milo are first cousins, just like Frodo and Saradoc, so wouldn't that make Mosco the same as for Merry, only Mosco is one generation further down? (If you are sure I will change it-- you are much more expert in these matters than I!)

Yay! I'm so glad this is finished at last, and that I finally have time to read it! This is a fun chapter. Eomer seems to be doing well with Lothiriel, and I like that her brother didn't get himself in the middle of their courtship. He was very wise to dodge that bullet.

Freddy learns some of the truth of Bilbo's adventures. "Pulling our foot hair" :D Love that! Viola and Beri are now officially courted - wonderful! I enjoyed seeing their flirting from the pov of Arien. Poor Mosco though! I hope he doesn't figure out that Meneldor is only repaying the prince!

Author Reply: No, Amrothos has more sense than that! And I think he agrees with his father that she should make up her own mind.

I thought "pulling our foot hair" might be a hobbity equivalent of "pulling one's leg".

Arien is a good observer, being an outsider. And Amrothos will have only himself to blame when Mosco starts to wax rhapsodic over the family tree!

I have to admit to not leaving any reviews uptil now - mainly as i only came to this story about 8 months back. However I really enjoyed this one and the prequel - indeed I have got both of them on my e-book reader for a re-read soon. I liked seeing how the story of the hobbits progressed, and am looking forward to reading how they deal with Minas Tirith now.

I also ought to ahve commented on Trotter which I really enjoyed when i finally found time to read it. I just wish i could write like you and so many of those on ehre - but my best writing is technical stuff (engineer by profession).

Now to re-read A New reckoning and this story as I am sure I have forgottne half of what happened....

Author Reply: Many faithful readers never review until the story is ended! I am very glad you've been enjoying it, and feel very flattered to know that ANR and R2E are on your ebook!

I'm also glad you enjoyed "Trotter"! Thank you very much! And I hope you enjoy
"A New Reckoning" the second time around.

I'm sorry I haven't reviewed faithfully. i have read each chapter as you posted it and loved it all. This was an excellent long tale that covers so much ground both physically and narratively. Now I'm looking forward to what happens as they travel to Minas Tirith and what the prisoners' fates will be.

You also give me hope that my long story may someday actually get finished.:)

Author Reply: I'm very glad you've been enjoying the story! Not every faithful reader can review every chapter. I do hope you will enjoy the sequels as well.

I'm sure it will! You may want to look into Ficfinishing! They will be closed until this round is finished but they will be open to new members again next month.

I always like reading Author's notes appreciate the insight they give into the writing process. You are whetting my appitite for the sequels even more.

And thank you for your last reply to my review. i was very touched.

Author Reply: I hope the sequels will live up to their hype!

And really, I owe a lot to my readers and reviewers!

Nice to see how you got through your problems, Dreamflower. It's been difficult, I know, to deal with all the distractions and disruptions--certainly I know how THAT works!

I don't know if I would agree to get into a situation where I had to write or die, as it were. I sometimes have to force myself into that mood already.

Anyway, thanks for finally getting it posted! And may the others flow more smoothly!

Author Reply: We all get into those situations, I think. Writing is a delicate balance, and it calls for serious *think* time. When that time is filled with other things and other worries it is often hard to bring the mind to heel.

*giggle* "Write or Die" is a little melodramatic, I suppose, but it's what the website's called. The first time I tried it, was just for laughs. I was surprised at how fun it was to work against the clock. I could not write an entire story or chapter that way, but it was useful to "prime the pump". And I certainly did not use the "kamikaze" mode! I used the "gentle and forgiving" mode. ; )

At least Cado is learning, even if Clovis is just angry. I hope Clodio manages the journey to Minas Tirith.

The banter between Legolas and Gimli was wonderful - those two are just such good friends - and Legolas took the smoke-filled clothes relatively well too!

Now I'm rubbing my hands at the prospect of them arriving in Gondor.

Now if I could just bring my own lazy Muse back from her holidays.........!

Author Reply: Cado was always the more intelligent brother, as well as more sensitive. But he'd allowed his brother to silence his conscience for many years. Now it is awake again. For Clovis, who's basically killed his own conscience, anger is much more acceptable than sorrow.

Legolas wasn't happy about the smoke-smell, but he values his friends over clothing!

It will be a while before "In the Court of the High King" and "Cado's Year" are ready to begin posting. But rest assured I'm working on them both!

How sweet to see that Beri and Viola are finally courting - and clever Beri to find something suitable in Edoras. Those Brandybucks are very resourceful.
I also love Mistress Poppy here - sensible, kind, motherly.

Freddy's letter was perfect and shows just how much he has healed. If only Frodo could have known such healing.

Naught Beri - I was wondering when he would get his revenge. I shall be sorry to see this story end, Dreamflower.

Author Reply: Yep. They are now an official "courting couple"! Brandybucks are very resourceful-- Beri knew that there had to be something he could use in Edoras!

Mistress Poppy basically is Viola's surrogate mother; she's really going to look out for her.

Frodo's healing was so much due to the way the Ring had scoured his soul. No matter what his *head* told him, that he should not feel to blame for things, his heart could not see it that way.

Yes, his revenge was rather subtle and hobbity, I think.

A gentle ending to the story, and a rather sad one for the three Hobbit prisoners. I hope Clodio and Dago will find both justice and mercy.

And it is hard to think of Bergil and Beregond going east rather than the rest of the say with the others.

A beautiful story! Am so looking forward to the next one!

Author Reply: I think that you know as well as I do that both justice and mercy will be found at the hand of the High King!

The hobbits are really going to miss Bergil. But he does need to get home with his father now.

I'm working hard on them already, but it will be awhile until they are ready to begin posting.

Thank you so much for all your faithful reviews!
