Praiseworthy  by Thundera Tiger 12 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 6/1/2005
Very satisfying tale, and love the realization Gandalf is setting these two up to help one another come to terms with what has happened.

Author Reply: Thank you! Gandalf actually surprised me by jumping into the end of the story the way he did, and Faramir insisted that it was no coincidence, so I went along with him. I think Gandalf got a kick out of playing the rogue, too, so I let them all run with it. I only wish it had been my idea to start with. ;) Glad you enjoyed it!

Long review--have been writing RL stuff all evening and decided to take a break and read your story when the email notification came through. Guess I'm still in a "writing" mood, though. So here you go:

Such a likable and believable Sam! I like his homey phrases, even his tweaking of one of the Gaffer's old sayings.

And again your humour shines forth for a momentary flash of brightness:
This training now enabled him to turn a startled shriek into a far more dignified gasp

And Sam's good sense, not speaking for wizards. Definitely spoken from experience!

"I didn't mean to do any of those things. I just stuck by Mr. Frodo."
Pure and simple.

"Fate looks after her own in most unusual ways."
Breathtaking wisdom.

"You seem upset enough for both of us."
I do like your Faramir. He seems more... real, somehow, than the impression I carried away from the book.

"and my father would have been driven to a madness far greater than the madness that others are even now attempting to hide from me."
And of course he's perceptive. I already knew that, but you show it so deftly.

My loyalty and your loyalty were both needed:
O excellent. Perfect balance.

At that moment, Sam decided that he didn't need the waters of the talking trees that Merry and Pippin kept going on about,
And another chuckle! And thanks for the relief, the respite.

...and Gandalf's arrival, precisely when needed. Interesting timing, quite suspicious. Am in agreement with Faramir.

Very nicely done!

Author Reply: Wow. I think that's the fastest response I've ever received. Thank you! And so very kind, too. I'm always nervous when I write any of the hobbits, so to hear from an author like you (who is AMAZING when it comes to hobbits) that you liked Sam...wow. That really did make my day. Glad you liked the humor (what litlte there is of it) and I'm glad you liked Faramir. One of the biggest problems in the original drafts was that Faramir was such a distant character. My goal eventually became to "humanize" him. He was acting very much like a talking statue for most of the initial versions. So I'm very happy to see that he's not as distant anymore. THANK YOU!
