We Were Young Once ~ II  by Conquistadora 165 Review(s)
RedheredhReviewed Chapter: 6 on 6/7/2006
Good grief!! What's up with Glorfindel?! Is he somehow blinded by Annatar?! Does the good elf think this is a *friendly* Maiar emmisary from the Valar?! "But justice demands that one judge not by hearsay." What the **** did he mean by saying *that*?! Heavens, none of our *supposedly* lesser elves are in doubt, and we certainly know Celeborn and Galadriel aren't fooled. I'm shaken my head...

Otherwise ;D a very welcome and entertaining chapter. I always enjoy Thranduil's observations of his kin. He has a big heart and there is a real connection between him and his younger cousins. Hmmm, no ones really asked him why he is not married yet. He was practically betrothed last time they saw him. Hmph...

His talk with Celeborn emphasises how sadly ironic it is that he will indeed take up his father's crown.

"She was everything he would have expected of a daughter of Galadriel, but he had the satisfaction of seeing that superlative Western beauty remade in the form of her father." ;) Loved that description!

Had not planned on review until I got back in town, but was so happy you updated - and so shocked by Glorfindel! - just had to right this minute.

Don't worry; Glorfindel is no fool, but he still has a few misplaced trusts at present. He'll have ample opportunity to explain himself later on. ;)

I'm afraid Thranduil is still having too much fun living the single life to marry her just yet. He seems to think he still has all the time in the world. However, Lindoriel may soon contest this . . . ;)

Oooo! I was all ready to comment how much I enjoyed seeing the comparison between Thranduil/Celebrian and Greenwood/Eregion (I absolutely loved that part) and then I got to the end with Sauron! I didn't see that coming though I suppose I should have. Thranduil actually seeing him! I hope you let them speak together in a future chapter (although that in itself might be enough to precipitate war, so very possibly you dare not). This was a great chapter!

Author Reply:
Thanks! ^_^

Oh, of course they have to speak. There are a few loose ends Annatar wants to tie off. ;)

Hello, Coriel, I was wondering when you'd be back. I understand that you must be "dying" in Christendom. At my school, I haven't been faring any better, which is why I haven't been in contact with you for so long ever since spring break. ^^

Pardon me for being ever constantly repetitive, but I must mention this every time I read a chapter. It's so...joyous, I guess you could say. In slightly grim situations you are still able to mix in a little humor, though it is hidden in there discreetly, and though it may not be noticable to some people, I can detect it. =)

Apparantly, Celebrķan has never sat upon the grass before if she can order a servant to bring chairs. Sitting on the grass has indeed a lovely feeling (except when it's wet and it gets your behind all wet), because it's soft and comfortable in a way.

Aha! Poor Thranduil. Imagine his shock when Glorfindel told him that he had wanted to meet the prince. Well, since Glorfindel had been since the first age, Thranduil would feel something like honor and respect to meet him, and feel as if his rank were nothing compared to someone alive for so long. And as Glorfindel says, Thranduil should enjoy Eregion while he's here. No way of knowing what lies in the future. o_O

Celebrķan dancing with Thranduil! Now that's just too cute! Now, of course, having no idea of Celebrķan's age, I would assume that she would be way shorter than him. Now imagine that. Hmmmmmm that seems very frivolous and playful.

Uh oh--the moment of suspense...Annatar. Now, we LoTR obsessors know that Annatar is really Sauron. But, these people from the Elven realms have no complete proof that he is evil, but they do feel suspicious. The Lord of the Gifts. Not a very impressive name for one who will try to dominate over Middle-Earth using cruelty int he future. I wonder what will happen... *plays suspenseful music on the organ*

Okay, okay, I made a mistake in the last chapter. I tried telling you about everything, but unfortunately school has complete dominance over my life. So I PROMISE you right now that you'll get my email about the same time as this review, depending on if you read this first or that first.

And seeing your reply for another review for the previous chapter--one week updates? Oh no, I couldn't keep up albeit it's almost the end of the school year. But hey, I'll try. Even if I don't review I assure you I will definitely read your story because it's just too good to miss!

Hearts,
Lady Saruman ^^

Annatar is going to be a challenge to write, that's for sure.

Hi there, I do hope you will forgive me for not reviewing in ages, this year has become hectic sinse going into matric. I hope that you have not forgotten me, I sure haven't forgotten you, I kept telling myself that I need to read your updates so that I can review, and now finally I got down to it. These last few chapters have been great and I am still impressed with the story as well as the story line. I can't believe Oropher, he seems to be more interested in treasures and stuff than even in his own cousin, if I'm mistaken please correct me, I'm so glad that you have given Thranduil much more sense because almost every other fic I read about Thranduil is that Thranduil has the same attitude about alliances and treasures and Legolas is the one with sense, no I have to disagree with that, nowadays I have just been pressing the back button if there is just a hint of something like that about Thranduil. I don't see him like that at all, I know Tolkien said he loved treasures but he didn't say anything about him being obsessed and that is why I appreciate your writing, you put him in a better light and you gave him the heart to go visit his relatives despite what his father thinks, I think he was very brave standing up against his own father for what he believes in and risking his father's wrath.
I just loved the first meeting between Thranduil and Celebrian, they both seem to have that fieriness that could either cause tension between the two or a great friendship and companionship.
I truly enjoyed reading this and I hope that you will continue to update as soon as you can because I am dying to see two certain lovebirds get married ;D.

No, I've not forgotten you. ;) Nor, contrary to all appearances, have I forgotten Thranduil. :P Beginning tomorrow, I'm going to attempt what hitherto has been impossible: weekly updates. We've got to get this show back on the road! We have a lot of ground to cover! ;)

*happy! happy!*

A short but entertaining chapter with much time having passed in the story too, I see. ;D "the five-hundreth"?! Ai, Annatar is imminent...

I like that little repart Thranduil and Celebrian shared. How it got so serious rather than staying at a teasing level, I do not know. ;) I cannot believe the lady does not know flirting when she hears it... or maybe Thranduil is too 'engaged' to do it well? Heh, it was a fun exchange!

Alway glad to see more.

I certainly hope to provide more over the next few months. I'll need something to distract myself from general mundane affairs before the awesome adventure that is the Rome semester. :)

But for now, Annatar is not the only thing that's imminent, but also my morning class and my metaphysics homework. So, I'm off to be studious now, but as always, thanks for the review! ;)

It is so good to see that Thranduil has not been relegated to the permanently long lost category.

The young inexperienced guard was a touching reminder that not all elves were ancient and wise. Likewise the reunion with the older elf and the prospect of his returning with Thranduil to the Greenwood (I hope) gives one pause as to the effect the scattering of the various peoples would have on possible reuniting of old (in years, not looks) friends.

His meetings with the feisty daughter of Galadriel promises some interesting future encounters.

Author Reply:
No, he's just been temporarily long lost. ;) Now he has to contend with flesh-and-blood people for my attention.

Yes, hopefully Celebrian will live up to my expectations for her character. We spend several chapters in Eregion according to the original plan, so she'll have occasion for several more appearances.

Thanks for the review! ^_^ And the new ideas . . . Luinheled's character is stirring again with new possibilities . . .

*does a happy little jig* Glad to see that you're still among the living, but sorry to hear that you're so stressed. The end of the year is always the hardest part. Great addition to your narrative, if a little short (but I really can't hold that against you), your writing is a captivating as ever.

Author Reply:
Yeah, I'm still around. ^_^ I've been so busy finishing this semester and planning for the next one that poor Thranduil has hardly had a chance to cross my mind recently. But I'll definitely look at it again over the summer now that I know my readership still exists. ^_^

*smiles* Very nice, Cori. I'm glad to see that you finally posted this. I'm also glad to see that we get to meet Lady Celebrķan. :-)

Author Reply:
She features even more later, so I'm sure you'll like that even more once I finally get around to writing it. I do have copious notes for this part of the story, so it shouldn't be too bad. Of course, those seem to be my most famous last words before the longest posting breaks. ;)

So happy to see another installment of this! I really enjoyed seeing Thranduil's reunion with Amroth and his meeting with Celebrian. I hope you do have more time for writing this summer. :-)

Author Reply:
So do I. ^_^ They do know how to keep us busy around here, so as soon as I can get away I would really like to make enough headway to appease the readership while I'm out of commission next semester. ^_^
