In The Service of The King  by Grey Wonderer 15 Review(s)
harrowcatReviewed Chapter: 1 on 9/12/2005
I really enjoyed reading this. I can just imagine it all happening from Pippin's adventures with the boys to Merry trying to learn to step back a little. And a story that examines the people of Gondor's transition from Steward to King is a rarish occurance. Can't wait for more.

Author Reply: Thank you for the lovely review. I am glad you are enjoying this one. I will be posting the other part by Wednesday and I do appreciate your reading this. I hadn't thought of the transition as being uncharted ground but now that you mention it I haven't seen too much on the subject before. Looks like Pansy's little donated bunny is traveling new roads.

Ooh, this is very good, GW! I can hardly wait to read the next chapter.

I hope Pippin is given a chance to arrange for some play areas within the city. And surely the King won't be too harsh, like making Pippin responsible for overseeing the recreational activities of certain underage youth, or anything like that, will he?

Chewing my nails in suspense,
Mum's the Word

Author Reply: Don't chew those nails. You may need them. Thanks for the lovely review and all of your questions should be answered by Wednesday. This one is only two parts long so save the nails. I was very lucky to have been given this little Plot Bunny. It was fun to write. Pansy gave this one a great start!

What a delightful beginning! The lads are so real, the characerizations rich and the descriptions of the Shire lush, and Pippin's homesickness very much felt. I love how you have him teaching the lads gentle lessons about their King and his justness and fairness, even as he 'hangs out with the guys.' I can't wait to see what happens next. Great start! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! Glad that you are enjoying it. This one is only two parts long and so all of your questions will be answered in the next post. It should be complete by Wednesday. This little donated Bunny was lots of fun to write and Marigold really did a great job of lining it all out for me. Thanks for the lovely review!

Pippin is a wonderful representative of his people -- and his king. He's doing a lot of good in the City, and hopefully his friends will come to understand it.

Author Reply: Pippin's methods are always slightly different from what folks expect because he's Pippin. I think they will all come to see the value of his visits throughout Minas Tirith before long. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Good tale. And I somehow suspect that Pippin's wanderings and interaction with the populace of the city might be even more beneficial, in their way, to the rule of the King than the planting and building of the others.

Poor old Merry, though. He does find it hard to let his little cousin be his grown-up cousin.

Looking forward to more.

Author Reply: The rest of this one should be up by Wednesday now that 'someone we know and are grateful too' solved my format problem. (Thank you again for that.) Thank you also for reviewing and I am glad that you like it so far.
