Starlight at Eventide  by Ariel 78 Review(s)
aprilkatReviewed Chapter: 2 on 1/24/2006
Oh, how sad that this change has come in their relationship unrealized by Merry (I assume unrealized, anyway). The "chill" may blight the bloom of their love as well as their passion.

It seems that Merry has taken on so much of the protectiveness of a healer and parent that he's lost his sense of HER.

I hope this is something they can work out. It would be so unfortunate if not.

Author Reply: hehehehe... I always try for happy endings - even if they are angsty ones. ;)

Oh dear! He's going to be overly protective of her, isn't he? *So* Merry! And that means, of course protecting her even from himself--he's afraid of harming her and he's been caring for her like a small child--and he probably doesn't even understand this himself...

Author Reply: Bingo... you are spot on correct... poor guy, and poor gal, but Merry's not so proud that he can't face his fears and Estella loves him enough to fight to keep him.

This is the Merry/Estella I love to see--so true and loyal and steadfast! I will look forward to seeing how Estella's illness has impacted their relationship.

Author Reply: Oh goody! I am glad you are reading! You will have to let me know if you think I 'got' him. I wrote Merry so badly in one fic that I have been trying to make up for my lapse in several pieces since. Guilt, you know. LOL! Hope you enjoy the rest.

'But one could love without desire. '

One can as many couples have to find out very sadly. Relationships have to change when one partner has to become the carer. But can it change back again? I suspect that we may be finding out!

Author Reply: Yes, indeed - and I hope the finding is as enjoyable for you as the writing of it has been for me.

Yes, our Merry, our loving, dedicated Merry, intent on not losing another he loves so quickly.

Author Reply: Absolutely correct. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I have enjoyed yours.

What a touching view of their marriage. Merry's character is so strong and constant and true - I love the fact that his heartbeat was the line that held her to life.

There is more to come, yes?

Author Reply: Yes! There is much more to come - I didn't want to post it till the last chapter was done but I just finished it and sent it off to the beta. Keep your eyes on this spot though, there are about 9 (possibly more if I split them up) more chapters.

This is not a story that I would normally have read Ariel but it a beautiful and poignant start and I am looking forward to more.

Author Reply: I try to never write the same thing twice and don't tend to write a story unless I have something to say in it. I can't guarantee it will keep your interest, but it won't be the same old same old. ;)

Ahhh... it is here, finally! You know how I love this... one of the most mature, deep lovestories between a married couple I've ever read. Thank you for posting it on SoA!

Author Reply: I vowed I wouldn't post this anywhere until I had it finished so as to motivate myself to get it done. As you can guess, I have just put 'The End' on my draft. *grin* It's still at the beta's but I can at least start putting the rest of it up.
