Dreamflower's Mathoms II  by Dreamflower 788 Review(s)

This is a delightful story! Nice idea to have it consist of letters. A great idea the ladies had, to get the two families together with the Gamgees at Bag End--they needed one other!

Just one question. You typed as the year that those letters were written as S.R. 1334. Wouldn't the year have been 1434, S.R.? Back in 1334, Frodo, the oldest of the bunch, hadn't even been thought of yet! =)

Author Reply: You are quite right! I shall edit that right away!

Too bad that the camera hadn't been invented yet!

Author Reply: I know. Can you imagine how hobbit families would LOVE having cameras?

What a lovely birthday mathom you gave us all that day! I've only read it for the first time today, and I like it.

Author Reply: Thank you, dear! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Too bad the pictures are no longer in LiveJournal. I would have liked to see them! Oh, well, at least, I've got the DVD, so seen Bilbo wearing that robe in the movie itself.

What a touching mother's gift that must have been!

Author Reply: Oh dear! I didn't realize the link had broken. I wonder if it's still at MPTT!

I don't know if I can find a new screencap now.

I knew the minute I saw him that his mother had made it for him.

Hey, you ought to write a sequel to this story, describing Sam showing that drawing to Frodo, Bilbo, and Gandalf, and explaining how it came about! It would be so cute to see them all laughing about that. =)

Author Reply: Perhaps! I'll keep that in mind!

Hahaha! I certainly guessed one of them! I'm glad I'm coming to this now that I'm a bit older and no longer need ideas put forth in fanfic as a crutch to face oncoming adulthood and responsibilities I didn't feel ready for, because I loved 'the hobbit pile!' ;) Of course that would be hard to get used to! I'd dislike it a lot at first. What were the others?

Author Reply: I still love the hobbit pile. It's a part of my own headcanon as well as a cherished fanon.

But it IS fanon, and so it can be "busted".

The others:
-Brown-eyed hobbits (since fanon favors the eye-colors of movie-verse for the most part)
-The little wart and the white lock are from one of the rejected manuscripts for FotR, found in "Return of the Shadow" in HoMe. (since the fanon is that Frodo has a perfect complexion and is exceptionally good-looking)
-Aragorn taking pains to wash up and looking forward to a bath (since there's a fanon that he's always scruffy and unkempt and likes it that way)

So yes, I did bust a few. But I still like some fanons, so I consider this little ficlet "AU", LOL!

Frodo looked up at him with a smile that went all the way to his eyes, his cheeks turning red with pleasure. "Thank you, Sam."

This mental picture makes me so happy! And I love your Shire lullaby! When I came across it in "Will There Ever Be a Morning?" it reminded me of one of mine that escaped being dreadfully repetitious. :) My mind keeps trying to come up with a tune to this one; do you have one?

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it!

Part of the Shire lullaby scans to "All Through the Night", but the whole thing doesn't quite fit to that tune. It's close though.

And I recall your lullaby; it was lovely.

This made me giggle! Soooo sweet! And how cool that it came from a dream! :)

Author Reply: Yes--it was such a cute vision of Sam with his little child on his knee, and that silly drawing...

I'm still reading and loving these stories! Some seem familiar and I think I must have read them before and maybe just not had time to review, but I'm loving each and every one!

This is so sweet. I love that Sam, too, read what Aragorn wrote in the end.

Author Reply: I'm sure you may have read them! But I'm glad you are finding time to comment now!

Yes, I'm glad too!

Poor Frodo! This really is unpleasant to deal with. A sprain is the only serious injury I've ever had, and like him, mine came at a really...interesting time, right in the middle of college finals! I didn't have a good reason for mine, though, I was just clumsy and not paying attention. I'm glad he had such a good birthday anyway!

Author Reply: Injuries and illnesses always seem to pick the most inconvenient of times to plague us! Frodo got over his sprained ankle--I'm glad you got over yours!
