Knave of Hearts  by Grey Wonderer 21 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/22/2006
“Bla!” Peregrin shouted and kicked his tiny feet in defiance. “Ogg gah!”

“Splendid,” Frodo sighed. “I’ve no idea what you said but I am certain that it wasn’t anything agreeable.”

“He probably called you stupid or something,” Merry reasoned.

ROTFL!!!

This is incredibly funny! I felt like Larner, constantly giggling :)

Thank you very much, G.W.! You made my day!

Author Reply: I love it when folks giggle while they read these so you have also made my day. Thanks for reading and reviewing! It is much appreciated! Stop by and giggle any time.

Grey Wonderer--HOW do you do this--constantly keep me giggling like this? Oh, how funny! Pippin, the tart thief! Heh!

Very aptly named story, this one.

Author Reply: So glad you enjoyed it. Knowing that I've made someone giggle always makes me smile. As to Pippin's tart theft, well, what hobbit child could resist a table full of tarts? Certainly not Peregrin Took. I was surprised when the story title turned up. That is usually one of the things I have the most trouble with. This time it not only turned up but I got a rhyme in the bargain! Thanks for reading!

Okay--a wonderful beginning. Let's see where it leads.

Author Reply: Remember that bumper sticker, "Don't follow me. I'm lost!" Keep that in mind if you intend to allow me to lead you anywhere. LOL

How adorable! Pippin always did strike me as a plotter as a child...

Author Reply: I love your name!
Thank you for reading and reviewing. I do think that Pippin has more on his mind than others might suspect.

LOL Frodo really needs to work on his babysitting skills. Really, he should have just put the tarts in a high cupboard where no one would be tempted by them. ;) That was too funny, wee!Pippin using Saradoc as a shield against his cousins. Merry is such a brat, no less wicked himself than he accuses Pippin of being, no wonder they grow up in each other's pockets. I loved that Frodo gave him a taste of his own medicine about the tart he ate.

Author Reply: If I were Frodo I think I would give up baby sitting altogether, especially when the sitting involves Pippin and Merry. LOL
I like to let Merry and Frodo do a bit of arguing from time to time. After all, Frodo was bound to lose his patience with darling Merry once in a while. Besides, it's just fun to let them go at it a bit.
Thanks for the review!

Oh, help. That was absolutely adorable!

Author Reply: Thank you! Hobbit-child and jam tarts just seem to go together, don't they? LOL

“How do you make him mind like that?” Frodo asked. “He won’t listen to anything that I tell him.”

“He isn’t minding me,” Merry said. “He just knows that I won’t pick him up. He’s thinking it all over. He’s plotting.”
*****
Frodo smiled and nodded. “Sounds to me as if he is playing.”

“Think whatever you like,” Merry said with a shrug. He gave Frodo the sort of pitying look that one might give to a simpleton.

*snicker* Poor Merry. Why doesn't anyone ever believe him? :D

Author Reply: You would think that Frodo would believe him by now. Merry knows far more about that 'wicked baby' than anyone else but no one ever listens. I was thinking that your dear 'Mellon' or one of her friends would make a better sitter for the 'wicked baby'. Someone should have gotten Pippin a dog! Then again, do dogs enjoy jam tarts? That 'wicked baby' might have corupted the dog too!
Thanks for reviewing and for reading!

Oh GW! I've missed your howlers!! This is just delightful from start to finish.

Merry most certainly is s-h-r-e-w-d, LOL! Frodo is so taken with little Pip (you'd have thought he'd have learned after the pouch incident) but Merry really knows his little cousin, and his own protectiveness shows in the way he objects to Frodo talking baby-talk to Pippin.

And the chase was hilarious, it really was. Esmeralda is not going to believe anything bad at all of her darling little nephew.

And Saradoc is not taken in at all, is he? I'm reminded of the part in "Squirrels and Stolen Pies" where Merry worries about his father questioning Pippin--because of course Saradoc will get at the truth.

At least Frodo and Merry still got to go see the new foal!

Author Reply: My internet hasn't let me post much lately and it was a struggle to get this one posted last night. I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Merry is shrewd, isn't he? But as he said in another of these little fictions, "I know my baby!" and he does, doesn't he?

I could see Frodo and Merry running around the table while Pippin took a short-cut and walked under it to escape. I just love physical comedy.

I think Saradoc is on to all three of them. I dare say that he knows more than he acts upon. Still he might need that rope if he is to stay ahead of the 'wicked baby'.

Thanks for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed this one.

Heeehee! Good use of the nursery rhyme here. What a fun story! I do love Pippin's bells :)

Author Reply: Thanks! The nursery saved me this time. I didn't have to struggle to come up with a title. Funny how many stories the bells are now in, isn't it? Thanks for reviewing!

Hah. Am on my way to bed, one eye closed and one halfway so, but couldn't resist leaving one of my trademark reviews on one of your prologues.

Good to see another GW story. Or it *would* be, if I could just pry my eyes open.

Hoping for more success on the morrow.

Author Reply: The story now feels officially 'posted'. The prologue review is here! Thanks for reviewing and I hope you get some rest. Carry on snoozing.
