A New Road  by Baggins Babe 12 Review(s)

My dear BB!

You have out done yourself, my dear. Such wonderful and warm detail. It is just what I would have imagined have happened. Sam pondering his wonderful life. My eyes teared a bit when I read that Frodo died in the King's arms. *sniff* It was just imagined so feelingly; I really enjoyed it!

MM

Author Reply: My dear MM,

Thank you for that - I'm glad you liked the story. Not quite sure where it came from but once the bunny sank its teeth into my ankle I had no choice!
I hope you enjoyed the little glimpses of Sam's children grown up.

I've been busy with school--I swiched and it's been quite a transition--which is why I haven't caught up. But I must confess I was half eager and half afraid to read this one. It's so gentle, so sweet, so peaceful. That verse at the end never fails to make me want to cry, and this time it did bring tears, maybe because of the beautiful way you used it.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked this, even though it was sad - in a happy sort of way.

I figured it wasn't so impossible that Violet and Frodo-lad married. Lads often fall in love with their sisters' friends after all.

A lovely ending of this part of his journey for Sam. Great to see all the cats. I always say that if the dogs who have been part of my life are not there to greet me then I'm not going.! *g* Glad this wanted to be written.

Author Reply: Oh yes, I think I'll be flattened in the rush when I arrive at Rainbow Bridge - dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea-pigs.......... I'll be bowled over! :-))

Sam deserves a good and gentle end.

Happy New Year!

Oh...This was so lovely and sweet and gentle. I especially loved the touch that Frodo-lad saw them hug the Mallorn before going on their way. This is a wonderful take on Sam's end of one journey and the start of another in your Reunion universe.

I am looking forward to reading more of Old Scores though. Have a very Happy New Year my friend!! :o)

Author Reply: I'm sure they would have given the mallorn a hug before leaving. Glad you enjoyed it though. I had doubts about posting this but the story insisted on being written, and now I'm glad it was.

Working on what will probably be the last chapter of 'Old Scores' at the moment.

Happy (and Healthy) New Year!

This is beautiful, BagginsBabe. I've been curious about this date for a long time in your AU, and you've delivered it wonderfully. I would love to see the in between years and find out how the wonderful things that you have hinted at come to pass.

Author Reply: This story just popped into my mind one day and refused to go away. I had grave doubts but I'm glad I posted it and it seems right.

Don't worry - there will be lots more stories and you will see many of these events.

Wow! There was so much new information in this chapter! I'd like to read about the time that has passed, and about all the Bag End cats.
It was a lovely idea to let all those cats appear one by one to show good old Sam that it was about time!

"Stars and glory! Is it really as easy as this?"

I hope it is that easy, for all of us! But, let's wait until we are at least 104 years old ;-)

Thank you very much!

Author Reply: Amen to that! I thought dear Sam deserved a gentle passing, and I'm sure the cats would come with his two dearest to bring him home. Glad you enjoyed it.

What a lovely ending for your beautiful AU! But I do hope you will show us still how so many of those lovely things happened in the meanwhile!

Author Reply: Don't worry, Dreamflower! There's plenty more stories to come. This plot bunny jest kept chewing my ankles until I wrote it.

I'm so glad you liked it. Happy New Year!

Author Reply: Jest? Just! That's what happens when cats wander across the keyboard!

Oh, I loved this! So wonderfully sweet and warm and HAPPY, even tho' our boys died. Really well done.

Author Reply: So glad you liked it. I'm relieved it wasn't too sad - I didn't want to make everyone cry!

KittyReviewed Chapter: 1 on 12/28/2006
That was a bit sad, true, but wonderful written. Once or twice I had already wondered if I'd ever know how you would solve the problem what happened with Frodo and Sam in the end. Now I know :)
Loved the idea of Sam first seeing all the cats and then Frodo and Rosie arriving to accompany him. And I was somehow glad Frodo-lad saw them and was comforted knowing his father wasn't alone but with the two hobbits he loved most. And I was glad Aragorn was there for Frodo years before.

Oh, and it is good to know what became not only of Sam's children, but of the Sandymans as well. The shy little Violet as the Mistress of Bag End and Will as Head Groom for Pippin and all this is a lovely image. Thank you, that was a beautiful ficlet!

A Happy New Year to you!

Author Reply: Thank you for reading and reviewing. Nothing like feedback to warm the cockles of an author's heart!

Had to have the cats in there somewhere, and I'm sure Rose and Frodo would have come back for Sam. That must have been comforting for Frodo-lad.

Yes, Violet as Mistress of Bag End - who would have thought it? With three of his children married into Sam's family, Ted Sandyman must be spinning in his grave!! :-))

Happy New Year!

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 12/28/2006
Oh, yes, the proper goodbye for our beloved Sam, had all stayed in the Shire. And he went accompanied by the two he loved the most!

Author Reply: I couldn't think of a more appropriate departure for Sam, and naturally his two dearest came to fetch him. This plot bunny would not rest until I'd written it out!

Happy New Year, Larner!
