Growing Up Tales  by Baggins Babe 66 Review(s)

What a sweet tale of Elanor's wedding-day! For Frodo to be there for it is wonderful!

I love the gift--but even better is the knowledge that *all* their friends are there for the wedding: Gimli, Glorfindel--and "Uncle Strider"! *happy sigh*

Thanks for reminding me of these again. I wouldn't've missed them for the world!

Author Reply: I'm glad you finally found time to read these, and of course I'm very happy that you enjoyed them!

Yes, all their friends have come to enjoy this wedding, and Uncle Estel will perform the ceremony. I just had to sneak in Celeborn, Glorfindel, Thranduil etc. :-)

That Frodo is there is the most wonderful thing - and the history of the jewel just wrote itself!

Aha! I finally found them!

(It suddenly occurred to me to look in your most *recently updated* anthology! *smacks self in head and goes "duh."*)

I enjoyed this look at a not-so-young Frodo-lad, missing his parents and uncle, and finding comfort in the children and reminiscing about all those cats! The cats of Bag End in your universe have been remarkable personages in their own rights, though I think Rufus remains my favorite! And I love the bit about how the description of "Mischief" could have just as well been one of Pippin!

And I'm glad there is still a Bag End kitty there to help comfort Frodo-lad.

Author Reply: The cats of Bag End are all interesting characters but Rufus is the one who has featured most in my stories so far.

Mischief's description certainly could have been applied to Pippin! One of my new kitties is called 'Trouble' for similar reasons!

Kitties are a great comfort and hopefully Frodo-lad will grow used to being Master of Bag End in time.

WOW! This was so wonderful. Imagine, having a part in the history of Elendil...what an honor indeed. Such a wonderful take on the story too. Thanks for this. Sorry it's taken so long to read this magnificent story, but I am more than merely behind on all of my reading.

Author Reply: How nice to find this review - thank you for those kind words. I'm not sure how this came to me but the bunny was very insistent. I've been wanting to do something on Elanor's wedding for a long time.

I could have sworn I reviewed this. Then again, I was really sick at Easter, so...

This is so lovely BB. What a wonderful history you gave the stone. I also love that Celeborn did indeed make it to Elanor's Wedding Day after that special gift he gifted Sam w/at that special birthday party the Shire hosted so long ago.

Speaking of Birthday Parties...I keep hoping to see an alert for another chapter of Aragorn's Birthday Party being up. I know, I know...Life takes over more often than not, but I'd love to see what Blossom thinks of Minas Anor and it's Marketplaces. *nudge..nudge...*

What a lovely addition this is to this wonderful little series. :o)

Author Reply: I'm not sure where this one came from but once the bunny bit me it gave me no rest until I wrote it. I wanted Celeborn to be there, especially as that was what he had hoped for. How lovely that you remember that story.

I was wondering where you had got to! I don't think you reviewed the previous chapter either, which was posted a few weeks before. Sorry to hear you were unwell, and I hope you're feeling better now.

RL has been a bit busy recently and the next chapter of 'A Centenary.......' is coming along slowly. I took in a pregnant stray cat and those time-wasting little kitties just took over!

And tears of joy are wonderful too. Beautifull BB

Author Reply: I'm sure many tears of joy were shed by those present on such a wonderful day.
So glad you enjoyed it, Harrowcat.

Ah--what a stone, and what a legacy--from a great King to the daughter of a special lord among Hobbits, given by the gentle, so-wise Frodo himself.

Author Reply: I honestly don't know where that history came from but the stone insisted that this was the story I had to tell.

I wanted elanor's wedding-day to be as wonderful as possible.

If he's the official cat for Bag End I'm certain he's most successful at so being! Heh!

Author Reply: Cats are usually good at doing what they do. The little kittens I have at present, only 8 weeks old but already little predators, yet cute as buttons!

Ah, yes--the Gamgees are married into the Hall as well as the Smials, eh? Of course--what else? Heh!

Love the idea of the caricature of the gentle-fox!

Author Reply: I've always thought that one of Sam's many daughters may have married into the Brandybucks.

I kept seeing the fox who pursues Jemima Puddle-Duck in Beatrix Potter's tale and he insisted on being in the story somewhere.

"My Elanorelle. I am so thankful that I did not leave the Shire. I would not have missed this day for the world!"

I'm glad he did not leave!

What a magnificent wedding! I particularly liked that little detail about Merry and his waistcoat - *grins*.

And what a beautiful present with a fascinating history!

Author Reply: I really love writing about Frodo's continuing life in the Shire.

Can't resist getting in a little mention of Merry and his taste in waistcoats!

I just couldn't get this idea out of my mind, so I had to write it.

Oh wow, that's quite a gathering! All these Kings and Stewards and Elvenlords! And Elanor has to be the most beautiful hobbit lass ever to marry! (And now I want to know more about Thranduil in the Shire!)

How typical - and generous - of Frodo to give Elanor this gift! You gave the stone a very interesting history. What a honour for Elanor to wear this piece of jewelry!

Lovely story, BB! And belated Happy Easter!

Author Reply: I just couldn't get this image out of my mind, nor the history of the diamond. I mentioned the pendant long ago, in one of my other stories, and always planned to write about Frodo giving it to Elanor.

I plan to arite a story about Thranduil and Glorfindel visiting the Shire - it's on my list of things to do - unfortunately it is a long list, but hopefully I'll get round to it one day.
