Lothiriel's Journal  by Lady Bluejay 20 Review(s)

Just wanted to let you know I am still reading your stuff and still enjoying it.
I really like how you sculpt your stories. Little turns of phrase, a choice word here, a left out word there. Makes for effortless reading yet has eastereggs for those who want to find them.

Author Reply: Mice to hear you are still with me. Thanks for the compliment - I hope to try my hand at a liitle more angst later in the year so will value your opinion.LBJ

My goodness, I am really afraid of Lothiriel's aunt. Poor Imrahil, growing up with that woman! Is she his older sister or younger? And I feel for Ivriniel's son, I really do.

I like the youthful anticipation in Lothiriel when she thinks about Eomer. In many ways it's so girlish and innocent and naive, but in many ways it isn't. Very nice job.

Author Reply: I have sort of based her reactions on the cloistered daughters of nobility - she needs some excitment in her life. Yes, she is a romantic but luckily she will not be dissapointed.LBJ

Ah, yes, the TALK. She sounds a proper prude indeed. Glad she doesn't live nearby.

Author Reply: The poor woman gets bad press in so many of these E/L stories - I shall have to write a nice Aunt Irv. sometime.LBJ

Finally able to access this. The ISP from Mordor has been haphazard this past week.

Lovely images here as Lothiriel contemplates her future. And am glad she's happy about the match. To find oneself promised to someone unsuitable and unlovable by the individual wasn't unusual, after all.

And it appears Eomer is indeed well matched.

Author Reply: No it wasn't unusual. But I like to think she's a sensible girl and realises her good fortune!LBJ

Well, she does have a handful of thoughts and more to consider! Her dreams look to be fulfilled (as if we didn't know!), her hopes to meet the heroine who helped slay the Witch-king are to be granted as well, and she's going to go to Rohan!

A most interesting look at this betrothal.

Author Reply: This one really is my most lighthearted look - up to now anyway! I took some ideas from the past Kings of England, who would often only have a painting - and a flattering one at that - on which to base their choice of Bride.LBJ

Yes, she sounds a likely match for our somewhat brash yet loyal and canny King of Rohan; perhaps a little young and idealistic yet, but that will pass naturally.

Author Reply: She does have chance to grow because form her betrothal to her wedding is almost a year. But, anyway, she is good at hiding her inner fantasies,LBJ

I really like your characterization of Lothiriel in this story. She seems like a sweet, capable young woman. I'm looking forward to reading more about her!

Author Reply: Well, I do try and make them all different and one who dreams about romance and adventure appeals to me. I imagine noblewomen could have had a boring life.
Thanks for reviewing.LBJ

I like the secret garden - that's a place Lothiriel will miss. And Anniel is a good - er - lady-in-waiting. She's down to earth enough to make sure that her charge has an awareness of the more practical sides of life. And actually, in that sort of society, Lothiriel would have a pretty good idea of what was going on - she would just be very carefully shielded from indulging in ... practical exposition.

Aragorn - over 80 - yuck! But that handsome young King of Rohan ... she's got her thinking set the right way.

Author Reply: Yes, 80 must seem ancient. And even Anniel will warn her against experimenting.LBJ

Edyth is onto a loser here.

Eomer has (sensibly) decided to offer his heart where he must offer his hand. And it doesn't hurt that Lothiriel is a very desirable recipient of both!

Author Reply: Yes, I think he is pretty smitten and only has eyes for one.LBJ

No question--totally besotted! Ah, what a scare! And now he writes trite nothings to the woman who has captured his imagination and heart! Alas, Eomer, you are lost, man!

Author Reply: A scare indeed, but I couldn't really do that to him. I quite like the thought of him being besotted!LBJ
