The Wars of the Valar  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)
SunnyReviewed Chapter: 55 on 1/30/2009
Whaaat? Is the story finished already?
Hmmm … I suppose all stories must end sometime. At least it means that I can start at the beginning and read all the way to the end now, instead of just to the end of the latest chapter (which can sometimes be quite frustrating. No more waiting on tenterhooks to see what happens next for _this_ story.)

There was of course a bit of final fun. I certainly liked "Never let it be said that I would deprive anyone, even Melkor, of a few homey features to their cell." *grins*
And then, on a more foreboding tone, "So it is doomed." (We know about some of that, don’t we?)

So now you can start on something new. What will it be about? How Irmo and Námo got to be such inveterate gamblers? Why Glorfindel and Thranduil are _always_ quarreling with each other? (I loved Aragorn’s little quip in Tâd Edhel a Firion of whether Glorfindel knew that Thranduil _wasn’t_ an balrog…) How Glorfindel and Elrond got to be friends? Thranduil learning of Legolas' new best friend? Perhaps the stories behind some of Vairë’s more … interesting …tapestries? (if Vairë will let you have a peek in her private gallery, that is.) Glorfindel and Echtelion making pranks in Gondolin? Or what happened to that first fëa to arrive in Mandos? The story of the first reborn Elf? Or maybe you will tell about the journey of the Elves to Aman? Perhaps you will take on one of the more neglected characters like Círdan, Fingolfin or Fingon? (Yes, I know that Fingon is very popular among slash writers, and I have grumbled to you about that before. And the main reason I do not care for slash is that that _other_ sort of action often takes the place of the story actually moving forward, or attempts to distract from bad writing and bad plotting – at least in the stories I have read. (And those, btw, are not problems in _your_ stories.))

You certainly won’t lack things to write about. It shall be interesting to see what your muse comes up with next.

Author Reply: Finished already? I've been writing this story for the last year and a half! *lol* But as you say, all stories must end sometime and I always knew, even as I was writing the first chapters, that this tale would end here since the Valar will not go to war again until the very end of Arda at the Dagor Dagorath and that's a whole separate story right there. None of the Valar participated in the War of Wrath, even though the Maiar did, so that doesn't count.

Your list of possible stories for me to write is rather amusing. I would *love* to get a peek at Vairë's private gallery, and hope some day she will deign to show me some of the more interesting tapestries. I like the idea of taking on some of the more neglected characters and you may see some of them in the future, though not necessarily in expected ways. We'll see what the Muse has to say about it.

Thanks for all your reviews, Sunny, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to let me know how much you enjoyed the chapters and the story as a whole.

I can't imagine how horrible it would be to be lock in a small room, chain to a chair for centuries. Yet, I wish they had left Melkor there forever. It is what he deserved.

I would happily join the Valar; too bad so few of the Firstborn felt the same way.

Your final sentence is scary. (Is this the end of your tale?)

Author Reply: It would have been nice if the Valar had left Melkor to rot in Mandos, but of course that's not what happened.

Actually, according to the Silmarillion, most of the FIrstborn did attempt the journey, though not all of them made it to Aman.

Your final sentence is scary.

As it was meant to be, and yes, this is the end of my tale. _Metta_ is Quenya for "End".

The last chapter...I will miss this story, I only reviewed once, but I loved evry single sentence. Thanks for this winderful story, be sure that I learn a little about astronomy...and you made Namo my favorite.

I hope that this si not the real ned, that you have a sequel, Melkor second rebellion, the Noldor exile, I'm with Ulmo, it was a mistake to move the elves to Aman, but I guess that even the great ones make mistake...and the secondborn, in my opinion, the most beautiful creation in Arda, I bet that they will be a puzzle to the Valar, because they are really so different for them and the elves, not only because the mortality, because our final trip is so unknown to them, mortal will have a great gift, to be with our Creator.

Anyway, thank again and I'm reading and following your other stories as well, even if I don't review...

Fantasia

Author Reply: Thanks, Fanatasia. I'm glad you enjoyed this story and all my others. I appreciate any and all reviews you leave whenever you are so inclined to do so. Now that "Wars" is done, I am indeed working on the Darkening of Valinor, which I have hinted at throughout my "Elf, Interrupted" series. It will be some time before I'm ready to post it though, but in the meantime I will continue with my other stories and perhaps write some shorter more light-hearted pieces along the way.

Oh Rats! I was hoping for more!
Well we have Melkor tucked away in his cell, Namo finally giving in to his wish for vengance, even as mild as it was, (I expect he would have enjoyed pumalling Melkor, not for himself but for Vaire!)and the decision made to bring to Children to Aman, should have listened to your gut feeling Manwe, I think Namo knows it is going to backfire on you sometime in the future.
Now to go back and reread it, expect more comments!
Next up The Coming of the Children?

Author Reply: Well, the story had to end at some point. *grin* I don't know what is next on the agenda, perhaps something a little less epic in scope. I need the break. *lol* We'll have to see what the Muse has to say about it all. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreaciate it.

"So it is doomed." What a powerful and foreboding ending! Wow!

Author Reply: And it's straight from the "Silmarillion"! *grin* Glad you liked this chapter and the story as a whole. Thanks for all your comments and encouragement. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how much you were enjoying the story.

Ah, very well done. I'm sorry to see this one end, I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for a wonderfully creative tale!

Author Reply: Thanks, Radbooks. I'm very glad you enjoyed this story. I had fun writing it and am sorry to see it end myself. Thank you for all the reviews you took the time to write. I really appreciated each and every one of them.

Wow. I feel as if I've been on this journey right alongside all the Valar. That last chapter definitely left me breathless. The end of the beginning.

Shivers ran up my spine as Namo uttered those words, "So it is doomed." Great story, wonderful characterizations and descriptions, and all around superior writing! Congratulations on this tale.

Time for a light-hearted tale next?!

Ces

Author Reply: Hi Ces. Shivers up your spine is exactly the reaction I wanted from the readers when Námo utters those fateful words. *grin* I'm glad you enjoyed this tale and that you found the characterizations and descriptions wonderful. It was definitely a labor of love as I felt the Valar's story should be told.

As for what comes next... I'm afraid that's up to the Muse, but there may be a more light-hearted tale somewhere in there. Just keep your eyes open. *grin*

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to leave reviews and let me know how much you were enjoying the story. I really appreciated them.

A wonderful last chapter.
I read it with one laughing and one crying eye (as the saying here in Germany goes): a laughing eye, because we finally know how the story ends (though we actually already knew that) and a crying one, because it is the last chapter and somehow I would wish the story to go on forever. Last chapters always seem to have that effect...
I really love this story and I hope that your muse will whisper to you more tales of the Ayanumuz, the Quendi and the Edain (especially our favourite Ayanuz ;-) ).
Thank you for this wonderful story!

Greetings, Thalanee

Author Reply: You're welcome, Thalanee. I'm glad you enjoyed this story. I enjoyed writing it and was sorry to see it end, myself, but I always knew *how* it would end even down to the final sentence. *grin* I'm sure there are many more stories out there about the Ayanumuz, the Quendi and the Edain for me to write, so I don't think I'll be out of job, so to speak, any time soon. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
