This is so funny and sweet. Sam is such a wonderful brother. I hope Frodo is going to be able to get all that jam out of Pippin's hair.

Author Reply: Thank you! I like writing them all as children. I think Frodo will manage but he might want to make Merry help under the circumstances. LOL

That was marvelous! No, not a selfish bone in that Gamgee body, the dear, sweet, self-sacrificing marvel!

Author Reply: Sam was a very rare and selfless hobbit. No wonder Frodo loved him so dearly. thank you for reading and I am glad you liked it!

*grin*

This is hilarious, GW! Poor Sam! But at least Marigold was happy, and Merry was entertained!

And who knows, perhaps Sam's good example was why Pippin was so careful, years later, to not hurt anyone's feelings when he ate his coming-of-age cake!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Sam did have a tough time in this one but he was gracious enough to save Frodo when Marigold offered to cut him a slice of the cake! I guess Sam figured that Frodo had enough trouble dealing with Merry and Pippin.

You may be right. Sam might just have set the proper example but Pippin's cake was at least tasty! If it weren't for the jam I think Sam might have been in big trouble! LOL

Well, I wish my brother had been more like Sam! What a sweetie! loved your sticky jam story, Wonderer.

Author Reply: Hey, I just wish I had a brother! LOL

What an adorable story! Love wee Pippin and love Sam being such a great brother. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author Reply: Thank you! I imagine that Sam was almost as good a brother as he was a friend don't you?

(pouting) no prologue to comment on!

(breaking into wide grin) I grinned and chortled all the way through this story. Your Merry is a terror, and Pippin seems to be a terror-in-training. LOL!

Frodo took his free hand, the one he wasn’t using to comfort Marigold, and rapped Merry on the top of his head. (and Merry's response! and Merry rapping Pippin on the head!)

And that bit about watching someone eating something disgusting being the most fascinating occupation in the world...

D'y'know, we still talk about the "Great Salt Cake" that resulted when one of the young hobbits locked herself in the kitchen to bake a birthday cake for mum. Reading the recipe (1/2 tsp salt) she said to herself, 'That's not nearly enough!' and so she put, I don't know, a Tablespoon or two? And then to complete the ruin, she made up her own frosting recipe. Since we didn't have enough icing sugar in the pantry she added flour to thicken it. Um...

Author Reply: I was tricksy this time and put the prologue right in the story. Thank you for reading and I love your cake story! That must have been a cake to rival little Marigold's efforts. So were you like Sam or Merry? Did you eat it or did you have enough jam to cover the taste? LOL

I can imagine Hobbits being interested in the eating habits of others and young lads do enjoy something more if it's a bit gross, don't they?

Now, you make the real birthday cake and you don’t have to worry about spoiling it because you’ve practiced.”

Marigold smiled brightly. “I’ve made all the mistakes in that one!”

How sweet is that! What a diplomat. And speaking of diplomacy and quick thinking...

“Do you want some?” Marigold asked.

Frodo looked as if he might choke but Sam spoke up at that instant. “If you don’t mind, Marigold. I’d like to keep the rest ‘o this fine cake for a snack later on.”

Frodo's right, there isn't a selfish bone in Sam's body. And of course your Merry and Pippin are as delightful as ever. The little rascals.

Author Reply: I don't write Sam often but I do adore him. He had to have been one of the most selfless hobbits in all the Shire. He was loyal to those he loved and I think he must have been a rare friend indeed!
Frodo did do a good job with his diplomacy but he needs to spend some time giving instructions to the rest of his relatives. LOL

So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

“No, no, no, no,” Pippin said shaking his head. He pointed a finger at the cake and said, “Bad, cake!”

This had me laughing out loud. That lad must have a sensitive nose! LOL

Wonderful fun as always, GW :-)

Author Reply: I decided that for once there might just be something that Pippin wouldn't eat. LOL Glad you enjoyed it!
